FREDERICK STOHLMAN, A.M., Curator of Marryuarid Art Library The Lniversity Library, during the past year. through acquisitions aIId purchases, has brought its total number of books up to approximately 545,000 volumes. This figure has been reached in spite of its policy to limit the books contained to those which have a direct bearing on the field of study outlined in the curriculum, During the past year, the new plan of study has increased thecirculation ofthe books, and 131,000 Volumes were loaned in comparison to the 96,000 of the previous year. It is estimated that ninety per cent of the students availed themselves of the works in the Library for educative and recreational purposes. The Industrial relations section, instituted two years ago, and allied to the Library, has acquired great prominence, and bids fair to become one of the most important departments. The coIIrse in bibliography, inaugurated last year by the Graduate College under the direction of Dr. Van Hoesen, has exceeded all expectations, and the number of students taking the course is increasing. Campus organizations, such as the Speakers Association, the Round Table, and the debating teams, now depend almost entirely upon the Reference Department for guidance In their fields of interest. Acquisitions during the past year totaled 37,000 volumes, the greatest gain for a single year in the history of the Library. The Blau Memorial Collection, accumulated by an eminent German bibliophile and named in memory of the late Professor Nlax Blau, IS one oi the most complete collections of modern German literature in the country. The books and memorabilia relating to Woodroww' Wilson will be greatly augmented due to the fund of S1500 which has been raised by friends of the late President for this purpose, By the gift of Mrs. Adrian H. Jollne the collection of Oriental manuscripts has also been increased. ' The most important exhibitions that have been on display during the past year are those which illustrate the history and progress of the art of printingg the exhibition of book plates belonging to the Library, and the display of Wilson memorabilia. 31
