Foreword V IFFICULT as it is for us to analyze the changes that are talcing place around us in our own generation, we feel that I when a new history of Princeton is written at some future time, say thirty years from now, the year 1919, will be pointed out as a landmark in the growth and development of the University. It is as a record of the undergraduate life of the year 1919, which even now we cannot help but believe is a momentous one for Princeton, that we offer this yolume of the Bric-a-Brac. And yet it is impossible to portray in the realm of photography and statistics what we consider the vital change or cleyelopment in the life of Princeton during the year 1919. fThe keynote of Princetonis war record was unstintecl service and we belieye that this spirit of service which was shown by Princeton menlon the battiehelds of Europe has in a measure, at least, been brought baclc into our very midst on the Campus. It is, then, our only regret that in these pages we have not been able to set forth, with class pictures and football victories, the record of the adyent in 1919 of a new phase of that inclefinable something which we call the spirit of service and which we feel will mean eyen more to Princeton than anything else that we have recorded herein.
