Died at Princeton, November 28, 1904, after thirty-seven years' association With Princeton University as trustee and distinguished service in the Presbyterian Church. 'Vilas born at Maria Furnace, Adams County, Pennsyl- vania, june 7, 1824, graduated from Pennsylvania College. 1843, and from the Princeton Theological Seminary in 1843. Was pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Greencastle, Pa., served as Professor of Sacred Rhetoric at the lfVestern Theological Seminary, of Allegheny until 1872. WV as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of New York, and Lec- turer in Homiletics and Sacred Rhetoric in the Union Theo- logical Seminary. Served as Professor of Ecclesiastical, Homiletical and Pastoral Theology in the Princeton Theo- logical Seminary from 1883 till 1902. President of the Faculty at Princeton Theological Seminary in 1900, and Professor of Homilectics at Princeton Theological Semin- ary from 1902.
