.-v TH FIVE UN 5 - , 5 4 Q Second Princeton By this time Captain Stockton was a member of the Senate, and primarily through his ef- forts, the second Princeton was rebuilt in the Boston Yard from timber and parts from the Orig- inal Princeton. She was First Princeton Named for the home town of Captain Stockton, USN, who su- pervised all construction. Built in Philadelphia in 1842 and was the first screw steam war ves- sel ever built. In' addition to her steam engines she was ship rigged, spreading 14,413 feet of canvas. One of her iron guns was called the Peacemaker which later exploded, killing five persons, more notable of which were Abel P.
