The PRINCETON is an amphibious as- sault carrier LPH, and as such functions as a high speed transport and launching platform for a battalion of Marines and their combat gear. In an assault area these Marines are embarked in helicopters and landed ashore. These troops may be used separately in commando type operations or, more likely, in support and augmentation of conventional amphibious forces. w...w...,v I .A 1 S AS SAU LT In the classic beach-head landing, helo- launched troops from the PRINCETON would be able to nullify fortifications and enemy troop concentrations, thus freeing the beach for a surface landing.
