H 'Qi wiij w l . P 1 178 1 The date was July 16, the place three miles south of the Demilitarized Zone QDMZJ, separating North and South Viet Nam. At 0630 on this date, the Amphibious Ready Group launched her landing craft and heli- copters to commence Operation Deck Housell. The principal objective of the operation was to secure the beachead at the mouth of the Thach Han River, north of Quang Tri. This area was to be utilized as a supply landing point for support of operations being con- ducted in-country. The objective was quickly accomplished and on July 181, Battalion 315 of the ARG was requested to assist other Marine battalions already engaged in Operation Hastings--25 miles inland.
