Intelligence reports reaching the Amphib Ready Group had indicated a sus- pected Viet Cong concentration in the area. As a consequence, Marine Battalion Landing Team 1X5 was landed by helicopter and surface craft--and Osage was on its Way. The primary mission of the operation was to conduct reconnaissance in force to determine the strength and extent of VC forces and activity. A secondary ob- jective was to protect friendly Vietnamese rice farmers, who were harvesting their crops, from Viet Cong harassment. . The successfully prosecuted, four-day operation was terminated on Mayl. Results indicated that a considerable amount of intelligence data and enemy supplies had been captured.
