3 3 ll 11 li fi Q i 11 14 J ll, E Fl? , X ?if ill 461 324 The second operation of the cruise for Princeton was launched in the early- morning hours of April 27 and was code named Osage, The Amphibious Objective Area was designated in the vicinity of Phu Loc--15 miles north of Da Nang. Intelligence reports reaching the Amphib Ready Group had indicated a sus- pected Viet Cong concentration in the area. As a consequence, Marine Battalion Landing Team 1X5 was landed by helicopter and surface craft--and Osage was on its Way. The primary mission of the operation was to conduct reconnaissance in force to determine the strength and extent of VC forces and activity. A secondary ob- jective was to protect friendly Vietnamese rice farmers, who were harvesting their crops, from Viet Cong harassment. . The successfully prosecuted, four-day operation was terminated on Mayl. Results indicated that a considerable amount of intelligence data and enemy supplies had been captured.
