The battle readiness of the ship is dependent on the efficiency and know-how of the beans and bulletsi' department-Supply. Whether itls swabs or aircraft engines, this department orders them and insures that they arrive. In Supply are the store keepers who issue, inventory, stow, receive, locate and keep record for any of 50,000 separate items. Commissarymen prepare the big morale booster-food-and give PRINCETON her reputation as a good feeder. Are they busy? Well, they served 1,143,000 meals during this last cruise. A sales division operates the laundry, a tailor and cobbler shops, 3 barber shops, a clothing store, a tobacco store, snack bar and ice cream fountain and many 'cgeedunkn machines. Another morale booster comes from the 'apay day division. Whether it's greenbacks or MPC's, the disbursing clerks have no trouble giving it away. A final job for this department is looking after the wardroom mess and officers' staterooms. It is a job handled by the stewards who are probably the hardest Working men on the ship. Procurement of the necessary material to sustain a ship and her men is the prime concern of this department, and every department of the ship is utterly dependent on Supply and the immortal DD 1150.
