The basic function of the Operations Department is to plan, co-ordinate, and schedule the operations of the ship and its assigned aircraft, including logistic services. As the brain of the Operations Department, the Operations Officer is responsible for the collection, evaluation, and dissemination of combat and operational informa- tion and intelligence, photographic services, external communications, aerological services, and the maintenance and repair of electronic equipment. For the proper performance of its various functions, the brain is well co-ordinated and agile, enabling it to move surely and without mishap. Acting as the lung for the Operations Department is the Air Operations Officer. His basic functions are co-ordinating and scheduling the ship's flight operations and the furnishing of pertinent information to pilots. It can be seen that in performing its functions the lung must receive and redistribute large volumes of air. The subconscious mind of the department is known as the Air Intelligence Officer. As keeper of the department's secrets, little is known about its functions. Frequently difficult to locate, the subconscious mind occasionally appears before the brain flashing bits of yellow and pink paper. It then quickly disappears, surrounded in an aura of mystery. Providing the department's sense of feel and its photographic memory are the functions of the OS Division. ln providing its sense of feel, the OS Division informs the brain if the department is Ihot, cold, wet or dry, using a strange language called forecasting. The eyes of the department are known as the Combat Information Center. Its functions include the collection, display, evaluation and dissemination of tactical and combat information required for the 1 brain to operate efficiently. Operating in almost total darkness, the eyes are frequently thought to have glaucoma, astigmatism, or even blindness. Contrary to, popular opinion, the eyes do not receive information from a crystal ball. Acting as the voice and the ears is the Communications Division. Operating on frequencies of many MCS fMartinis Consumed Success- N fullyl, the voice of Bullhorn is usually heard loud and clear. Maintaining the eyes, ears and voice for the department is a group of antibodies known as the Electronics Material Division. Speeded by frantic calls from the various sources of infection, the antibodies combat such diseases as laryngitis, deafness and blindness.
