Writing Workshop For Writers with a Way with Words . For Any seventh or eighth grade student with an interest in a flair for creative writing. Objectives: - to extend the basic written communication skills offered in the classroom. - to aid students in internaliz- ing the Writing Process so that it becomes an automatic pro- cedure in all their writing endea- vors. - to motivate and excite stu- dent creativity be generating ideas through various language arts modalities. - to help students overcome their reluctance to write, and to encourage fluency. - to reduce structural and mechanical problems in stu- dentst writings. Format: a broad variety ofwriting motifs endorsed in the Ohio Writing Project as follows: spon- taneous memory monologue; free writing; sustained silent writing; sentence combining; narration; description; exposition. SOLS lStudents Offering Leadership and Servicel SOLS consists of both seventh and eighth grade students. It is an organization for students who are willing to invest time, energy, andtalentinactivitiesthatwill be of service to the school and com- munity but will also help to grow personally. The students will act as student orientation leaders at the sixth gradeorientation and at summer registrations. They will serve as guides for conference days, open house, parent visita- tion days, and for other pro- grams such as awards night. 80 L8 will serve on a welcoming committee for new students, and there will be several community service projects. Leadership dev- elopment workshops are con- ducted where students will work on such skills as communica- tion, group dynamics, goal set- ting, rational thinking, etcu Art Club The Art Club, established in 1978, provides students with learning opportunities related to the world of art. Activities differ from those offered in the regular art classes. The club works on seasonal crafts and sponsors many art related activities such as poster contests, costume con- test for a Halloween dance, and craft exhibits.
