BSS On th1s page we tell the tale of the dlstm gulshed Class of 58 followlng the1r steps as they make the1r way through h1gh school years Let your eyes l1nger on these paragraphs for your last fleetlng gllmpse of a class that has lndeed made hlstory We 1nv1te you to go backward ln t1me o meet the Class of 58 As Freshmen In the fall of 1954 the 58ers entered P H S as frlghtened greenhorns an even two dozen of them They soon grevu accustomed to the1r home room the plt and to the1r adv1ser Mr Dale Metcalf They elected James Krueger to be the1r presl dent dur1ng the freshman year He was ass1sted by Pat Monahan George G1ese was named sec retary and Elmer Zuehls was treasurer Rona Walters and Judy Calhoun represented the class on the Student Councrl Then came 11'1ltl3t1OI1 when the frosh had to cope w1th l1pst1ck grass sk1rts and bushel bas kets They showed sp1r1t and held no grudges g1v1ng a Thank you Party at wh1ch the newly formed frosh sextette was featured At football homecom1ng t1me the freshmen showed the1r or1g1nal1ty by wrnnmg f1rst prlze on the1r float and th1rd prrze on the1r decorated store wrndow In the sprmg they gave an assembly program rn the form of a play entltled U S Revolt Th1s was a huge success enjoyed by all the students They came back the next year As Sophomores Mr James Dunk was the1r new adv1ser and the1r lofty res1dence was now the Engllsh room George GIESE was the sophomore pres1dent wrth Ellen Jankowskx as v1ce presldent Judy Calhoun handled the secretarys book whlle Rona Walters was named to take care of the f1nances Barbara Luedtke and Pat Monahan were on the counc1l The f1rst rtem for the vear was freshman 1n1t1 atxon Th1s was a task the sophs thoroughly en Joyed After a day spent gleefully antagomzrng the wee frosh the 58ers put them through r1d1c ulous stunts at the commumty hall 1n the eve n1ng At Chr1stmas t1me the twenty two sophs real ly full of the Old N1ck successfully carr1ed out the task of plann1ng the all school Chr1stmas party' Th1S was the f1rst year of basketball home comlng The class elected Rona Walters and George G1ese as the sophomore representatrves on the court of honor to do the1r part rn es tabl1sh1ng th1s f1ne trad1t1on But the best IS yet to come' So meet these 58ers As Jumors Ten boys and an equal number of g1rls launched out on thxs bus1est of hxgh school years History An early h1ghl1ght of lrfe 1n the eleventh grade was the selectlon of class r1ngs They settled on a lovely onyx stone to be the falthful remmder of hrgh school years throughout the rest of the1r l1ves An early start was accomplrshed on the most lmportant Junror prom Larry Rose chosen by h1S classmates relgned as klng wxth pretty Ellen J ankowsk1 as h1s queen The theme C1ty of Angels was beaut1fully carr1ed out the whole class lendrng a helpful hand The splend1d Splflt of the class was ex empl1f1ed 1n the selectron of the court of honor wh1ch lncluded every Junlor a refreshmg 1nno vatlonl After danclng to the muslc of Wally Beaus Orchestra a dreamy sort of post prom party was held at the Tuscumbla Country Club J1m Krueger was Jumor v1ce presldent W1th Rona Walters secretary and Barbara Luedtke treasurer Ellen Jankowskr and George G1ese were the Jumors counc1l couple The honor of representmg the class ID the basketball homecom1ng court went to Barbara Luedtke and George GIESG A great year but wart untxl you meet the class of 58 IH the1r f1nal glory As Semors Home room quarters were set up 1n the SC1 Lueck Here were the self styled rulers of the school From d1ff1cult geometry problems to walkrng passes these twenty alm1ghty ones knew all the answers' fAnd what semor class doesn t'7J A new class member was ga1ned D1ane Hoff man replac1ng one who had dropped out The honor of lead1ng the d1St1I1gL11Sh6d sen1ors went to Pat Monahan w1th J1m Krueger as hlS qu1et assrstant Rona Walters was kept on as secretary and Bern1ce Re1ser became treasurer On the counc1l were Judy Calhoun and Howard Kautzer A splendrd Job of semor leadershxp was shown rn the plans for the football homecommg fes t1v1t1es Headlng th1s event were Krng J1m Krueger and Queen Rona Walters The court was composed of the rema1n1ng semor football players and an equal number of semor grrls The th1rd annual basketball homecom1ng was led by Pat Monahan and Bermce Relser as roy alty of the evenrng Barbara Luedtke and George G1ese agam represented the class on the court On March 4 the class presented a truly splen d1d performance of the1r well selected play Mother Is a Freshman Conv1nc1ng dramat1c mterpretat1ons were turned 1n by these out standrng 58ers Cl1I1'18X1l'1g th1S wonderful year was the class banquet class nrght and rn all 1ts pomp and clrcumstance-graduatlon n1ght on May 29thl CI . . , . . . . , .
