Fads And Fashions Time will come and time will go, but as long as there are people, fads and fashions will continue to grow. The history of today's fads and fashions can be traced as far back as the beginning of the Nineteenth century. The 1920's started off the era of the flappers. They wore dresses made of beads, usually accompanied by a boa. The next decade brought about a greater interest in woman's head attire. Besides hats, the straight ankle length skirts appeared. Later in the 1940's the emphasis traveled all the way down to the feet. Sandals known as Huaraches became popular, and soon after that came shoulder pads, which gave the wearer a more masculine appearance. After the war, came the carefree Fifties. During this time poodle skirts and saddle shoes were worn, and hula hoops became the rage. In contrast with the carefree Fifties, came the movements of the Sixties. Bell bottom pants and long hair were mainly associated with this time period. Yet in the Seventies the trend made a drastic turn towards mini skirts which were worn while discoing. Now in the Eighties many of the fashions and fads from earlier decades are being brought back. For instance, fashions include pedal pushers, mini skirts, paisley prints, long coats, padded shoulders, hats and penny loafers. A few of the fads of the Eighties are playing hackey sac and collecting designer watches. Fads and Fashions are good indicators of the times. It's hard to say what the future will bring to the fashion scene. 8 Fad and Fashion Laurie Weissman and Dulcie Hunt pose for the camera to show off some of the latest fashions - Dulcie's paisley shirt and Laurie's stirrup pants topped with over- sized shirt. Also seen at P.H.S. were broaches which were worn on coats and sweaters. Caught at a Student Council Meeting, Melinda Eckberg seated between Angie Hayes and Sheri Lamers, nervously displays her broach.
