With the help of the Adult Club. AFS spon- sored the annual Chili Supper. Buttons bearing Sakchai's pic- ture arrived in time to be sold at all AFS functions and came in handy for getting out of study halls during AFS — Student Council week. Pizzas were sold during Christmas vacation in ef- fort to raise money for the club. Both Marianna and Sakchai shared their slides with the stu- dent body. After a busy year, the AFS season officially came to a close, ending with the annual concert and ice cream social. Thanks go to Mrs. Larson. Mrs. Lowers, and all the people who helped make the year a success. 50 A.F.S. IN ACTION! 51 CWT AND AVS C.W.T. ROW 1: Mr. Goble. L. Huckelberry. D. Stocking. B. Green. D. Colyott ROW 2: B. Hannah. B. Murphy The Student Council of 1974-1975 started its year with a homecoming week to invoke school spirit. This proved to be very successful, but the council did not stop there. Another project of amending the constitution for different representation also proved to be successful. This year was one of trial and experimentation for Student Council. Many problems arose and had to be dealt with, with no past solutions to lean on. The council hoped to encourage better relations for ail students and to provide a me- dium of expression. Other businesses discussed at the meetings were charity possibilities, student dances. Illinois Association of Student Councils, and revision of the constitution. All in all. it was a successful year and Student Council hopes to grow even more. Mary Beth McCormick STUDENT COUNCIL OFFICERS ROW 1: Melinda Edgerley. Secretary. ROW 2: Mar- ianna Murphy. We get sky high without any pills, We lose our money, we inherit by wills, But there's nothing more fun than running those hills.” Their achievements are history. They whetted their desire for victory. They quenched the fans’ thirst for a conference championship and a team in the top ten in the State. They reaped what they sowed. Behind their Senior Triumvirate of Dave Darling. Tom Arch, and John Timberlake, the Tigers of Princeton extended their winning streak to twenty-three straight duals. They won invitationals like they owned them. Like David against Goliath, they finished a majestic seventh in the State meet. The Big Three” were aided by the Junior Quartet of Eric Scott, Doug Eakin. Pat Hodge, and Marty Makransky, who were as consistent as the day is long. On the other side of the table, the Frosh-Soph had their best season history with a 9-2 record. They were led by Ted Shekel, Tim Swan, Steve Arch, Rich Ellis, Gary Kelly, and Dave Butterfield. The credits for this outstanding cross country season are as follows: Humor — Mark Lovejoy: Desire — Mel- vin and Bob Welsh; Determination — Dave Bangert and Ted Dinkelman: Heart and Soul — Alvin Taylor. This has been a story of a team who won. lost, laughed, worked, loafed, messed around, sweated, played frisball 74 and football together. They said they owed it all to Mr. Coates for making them . GOLFERS AT THEIR BEST This was the first year that golf was held in the fall at Princeton High School. It had been a spring sport since it originated. This team was one of the best teams in P.H.S. history. They comprised the lowest team average since team scores were kept. We had many highlights through- out the year, but one of the big- gest was Kevin Vail’s qualifying to go to the Sectional Tournament at Normal. He shot a 78. but failed to go to the state tourna- ment. The District team was just one stroke away from advancing to the sectional. The varsity ended with a fine 11-5 won-lost record. All seven mem- bers of the district team will re- turn next year, including Rita Goble. Kevin Vail. Tim Sullivan. Chris Roberts. Paul Douglas. Dave Bolen, and Dave Reeg. The J-V Team had a 5-9 won-lost record while the Frosh-Soph team was 3-1. We had a very rewarding year, but hope for bigger and better things next year. ABOVE Varsity Golf Team D. Reeg. D. Bo- len. Gustafson ONLY TO BECOME BETTER . f Vi- VARSITY FOOTBALL For Coach Herschel Johnson in his first year as head football coach, the 1974 Tigers made an excellent cornerstone for the football program in the future. The Tigers could have considered themselves unhealthy for the grid campaign. Injuries play a major role for the team. Three fourths of the original backfield was lost due to injuries and illness. Many games the Tigers dressed only seventeen players for the game, forcing many players to go both ways. But the team never gave up. It is too easy to give up in anything, and the Tigers would never say die. The word that would best describe these Tigers is PRIDE. They took pride in being the team they were. In the season opener, the Tigers won a 27- 24 come from behind victory. They were down 18-6 at one part of the game. From there, though, it was downhill all the way. losing the next eight straight. They gave Washington. Hall. Rock Falls, and Rochelle excellent games, and after every game, the opposition knew that they had been on the field with Princeton. For though the Tigers were lacking in numbers, they never lacked the determi- nation to give their all in a game. Conference selections included Co-Captain John Mailer at All-Conference end. Brian Car- dosi. Kevin Peachey. Tim Conkling. and Steve Hartwig receiving Special Mention, and Brian Brutcher and Greg Lymberopoulos. Honorable Mention. The individual honors voted on by the team and given out at the football banquet were: Kevin Peachey. Most Valuable Lineman. Steve Hartwig. Most Valuable Back. Brian Brutch- er. the Howard Award, and John Mailer, the Most Inspirational Player. 1. VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM. ROW 1: Mr. Bagger. J. Long. R. Hanna. B Brutcher. G. Lym- beropoulos. D. Stocking. J. Of the healthy personnel. Dale Anson. Marty Makransky. Billy Hannah and Randy Smith were consistent winners. The highlight of the varsity season was during the Princeton Invitational Tournament when eleven of our twelve entries wrestled in the finals. Princeton had 4 seconds. 1 third. 2 fourths, and 4 consolation winners. Dale Anson and Randy Smith received third place awards in the NCIC Tournament and Dennis Michael and Tim Conkling received fourths. In the district competition. Gary Staples and Randy Smith received fourth place awa rds. Sophomore highlights came in two tournaments: the NCIC and the East Peoria Invitational. In the NCIC. Randy Miller and Bill Frasure were champions. At East Peoria. Rick Hanna took the top honor in his weight class. The sophomore team also finished with a fine 13-4 record in dual meets. The freshmen ended their season by competing in the Sterling Invita- tional Tournament with the following places: Kelly McLain, first: Karl Swanson, second: Tim Torchia. second: and Greg Johnson, third. As the result of voting at the end of the season. Randy Smith was selected honorary captain for the 74-75 season, and Dale Anson and Randy Smith were selected Most Valuable Wrestlers. An entirely new basketball program was installed and player adjustments had to be made. The results showed the Basketball Pro- gram is on its way up the path of success. We played against some of the toughest competition in the state and proved the Tigers were not to be taken lightly. Superior performances were made at the Rockford Christmas Tournament and against Class “A” State contender Western of Buda. Several opposing coaches agreed that our ‘ man-to- man” defense was one of the toughest. Yet. our relative inexperience hampered our consistency. The Sophomore Team had a slow start, but caught on fire at the end of the season. They brought the first basketball trophy home to Princeton for the '70s after winning the Western Invitational Sophomore Tour- nament. The Freshman team had a good year and has the potential to develop into a very fine ball club. Basketball Coaches KNEELING: Coach Marv Bausman. Coach Herschel Johnson STAND- ING: Coach Bill Guerrim. Youth and inexperience prevailed as the team con- sisted of one senior, seven juniors, seven sophomores, and sixteen freshmen. However, the team managed to capture three victories in eleven decisions. At various times during the season, the varsity con- sisted of juniors Jeff Ringenberg. Marty Makransky, Jim Slagel, Bill Stuebe. Curt Yelm. and Jerry Thompson; freshmen Danny Diller and Craig Livey; and senior Steve Peterson. The highlight of the season was a fourth place showing at the district meet. Coach Young termed this season as one of building for next year. Varsity Track Team. KNEELING: T. Conkling. E. Bader. D. Many memorable incidents occurred on this voyage. There was a short-lived accident that lasted a couple of weeks, when Patrick Hodge drowned through the 330 yard low hurdles record. However, this was harpooned in the Bureau County meet by John Timberlake. At other times, Tim Conkling casted the shot put over 56 feet, the mile relay of Private Stocking, Captain Timberlake, First Mate Eckhoff, and Ensign Hodge finished 12th in state at 3:22.9, the two mile relay of Mess Officers Darling, Arch, Hodge, and Timberlake swam to the tune of 8:09, Crow's Nest Private Hodge also ran the 880 in 1:55.9, and Ensign Dave Lowdermilk shivered his timbers (no relation to John) when he high jumped 6'7 . All the above mentioned crew sailed to Charleston. Illinois, except Conk who missed out by 3 4 of a starboard bow, to swab the deck in the state meet. The voyage also included a major victory when the crew harpooned the big whale. Moby NCIC. Other minor catches were at invitationals in Normal, Geneseo. Princeton, and the N.I.V. indoor invitational, not to forget the annual second place trophy at Morton. All the crew was commanded by Admiral G. Coates, First Mate D. Coates, and Captains Flinn and Kiser. Without the help of these officers the season would have been lost at sea. On behalf of the crew. I would like to thank the faculty, students, and community that helped us cast off with their help and support. Avast! I hear the call to the deck. Ah yes, we are trying to harpoon Moby Coates to be the symbol of our crew. Fare thee well, and remember these words, We Wuv Winning.” 99 TRACK MENTORS AND J-V TEAM 100 Frosh-Soph Track Team. Some of us have had to struggle to get to this point while others of us made it with little trouble at all. Nonetheless, we are seen here — together for the last time. One day most of us will get together again and talk of all the things that used to be. The memories will be there — filled with happi- ness and fun. filled with hard work and maybe some sadness. Never forget these things for they will never be the same. We have come a long way. but we have much farther to go. The future holds something different for each of us. and for each I wish the most luck and happiness the world can offer. Wayne Allan Stone Senior Advisor Board ROW 1: J. Paxton. C. Hanna. W. Stone.
