Upon arriving we found many changes in the faculty. Mr Dill had come with some of us from Lowell to take the task of principal of P.H,S. Other new member.s of the faculty were Thelma Hodges-Latin, Dorothy Cato-Physical Fitness. Velma Thomas-Ty ping, Mrs. H. F. Carpenter-I-Listory and Civics, Mrs. Robert Maxam-English and Dramatics, E. J. Lautner+AgrLculture. Eloise Adam-s-History, Ralph Ken- dall-Biology, Harold Goodwin-Physical Fitness and Basketball Coach, Mrs. H. R. Caniff--Vocal Music, Mrs, Joe Behr-English, Callie Hudson-Home Economics, and Mr. Orville Puckett accepted the duties of superintendent. Miss Hudson and Mr. Goodwin were sponsors of our freshman class. To represent our class on the governing body of our school we chose Carolyn Sue Franklin, Sue Gwaltney, Esta Lou Zimmerman, Jean Woods, Mina Lou Rogers, Bill Townsley, Floyd Schmidt, Charles Kusak. Bob Morton. and Jerry Reinhart. Johnny Phillips, Don Morrison, Ed Wood, and Melvin Smith started their up-and-coming basket- ball reputations as members of the Tiger Cubs. Freshmen cn the baseball team were Daniel Arburn, Don Morrison, Johnny Phillips. Ed Wood. Jerry Reinhart, and Melvin Smith. In football our class had Melvin Smith, Don Morrison. Jim Thompson. Daniel Arburn. Bill Montgomery. and Ed Wood. Taking an active part in the Solo and Ensemble Music Contest at Terre Haute on April 1 were Sue Gwaltney, Don Morrison, Nancy Sny-der, Bill Townsley. Charles Kusak, and Jo Anne Miller. Just as we were getting in step with the 1-ules and regulations of P.Hi.S. our freshman term ended. S4ll'l'ltPM4lI'Il'i The summer months flew by and our second year in good old P.H,S. was about to stai't. We found these changes in our faculty: Mrs. Robert Garret-Shorthand, Mr. Arvino Antonini- Biology and Football, Edgar Lautner-Biology and Agriculture. Miss Carter Webb-Physical Education, Wilma Austin-Typing. and Mr. Johnson-Basketball Coach and assistant sponsor of our class. Those elected as members of the Student Council this year were Bob Sam Morton, Don Morrow. Don Morrison, Nancy Snyder, Jean Woods, BettyMu1hall and Barbara Ingle. Football players from our t-lass were Bob Ridge-ly. Melvin Smith, Bill Montgomery, Charles Kusak. Jerry Reinhart., and Bill Town-sley, John Phillips of our class was football student manager. Carolyn Sue Franklin was our contribution to the yell leaders in our second year of high school. As attendants to the football queen we had Sue Gwaltney and Esta Lou Zimmerman. Band members participating in the Solo and Ensemble Contest in Terre Haute on March 24, 1945 were Jo Anne Miller. Sue Gwaltney. Jerry Reinhart, Charles Kusak, Nancy Snyder, and Bill Townsley. Don Morrison, Johnny Philips, Melvin Smith. and Ed Wood represented our class on the Varsity basketball squad. Those in our class playing on thecub team were Jack Whitehead, Don Morrow, Rus- sell Griftin, and Jerry Reinhart. Those of our class showing their talents in baseball were John Phillips, Ed Wood, Melvin Smith and Jerry Reinhart. A With one halt' of our high school education pa st and with sixteen credits we anxiously awaited our Junior year. .IVXIUH As Juniors we worked hard at making' money for the Junior-Senior Prom and were unusually successful, To direct our class in all of our undertakings we chose Jean Woods and John Phillips as presidents, Mina Lou Rogers and Bob Morton as vice presidents, with Miss Hudson and Mr. Fougnies as sponsors, Student Council members were Jean Woods, Jerry Reinhart, John Pl1i11iDS- Sam MOITOU- BaTb211'21 lngle. Bill Townsley, Don Morrison. Joan Lewis, Barbara Embree, an-d Jo Anne Miller. Representing the class of 1947 in football were Jim Thompson. Ed Smith. Melvin Smith, Bill Wit- herspoon, Bill Townsley. Bob Ridgely, Dan Arburn. Bill Montgomery, Jack Whitehead and Jerry Rein- hart. The students chosen from our class to be attendants to the football queen were Joan Lewis and Sue Gwaltney.
