Scott. Front Row: E. Thompson. B. Weiss. The Tigerettes experienced one of their most successful seasons ever. With an overall record of 17-7, the Tigerettes earned their first trip to the Girls’ State Tournament in Buchan- non, West Virginia by defeating Bluefield and Mount View for the Sectional title and Woodrow Wilson for the Regional crown. The Tigerettes' leading scorer for the third straight year was Ellen Thompson who scored her 1000th career point early in the season and finished the year with a career total of 1327 points. Additional honors received by Tigerettes were as follows: ALL COUNTY —Brenda Weiss, Ellen Thompson, Robin Beamer. Honorable men- tion—Sandy Bowman. ALL TOURNAMENT—Sectionals—Brenda Weiss, Ellen Thompson, Robin Beamer. ALL STATE—2nd team—Ellen Thompson. Honorable mention—Brenda Weiss and Robin Beamer. 22 Ami Bowman goes up for two against Graham.

CHESS 1978-79 CHESS TEAM — L to R: D. Turpin, E. Wooten, D. Downard, Wright, R. Hyatt. T. Veneri, M. Pencarinha. The Princeton High Chess team, sponsored by Mr. Tom Runyon, turned in a favorable worksheet by defeating county rival, Bluefield, 12-0 and 9' 2- 2V2, and Peterstown 10-2, while losing only to Northfork by a slim 7-5 margin. Although all team members practiced faithfully and contributed to team accomplishments, special recognition goes to team captains Phillip Wright and Mike Pen- carinha. These two dedicated seniors devoted three years to chess and defeated nearly all of their opponents in match play. The Chess team also held a special inter-squad tournament to provide competition and practice for all mem- bers. David Turpin surrenders his king to an Adidas. 21
