Hill, We had a very competitive and successful year” was the comment of two-year tennis coach Tom Bailey. Bailey could not have summed it up any better as the Princeton Tigers tallied an undefeated season and sent four of the six players to the state tournament. Junior Kevin White stole the show at the second seed position by becoming the 1979 state tennis champion. Including regular season play and tournament play, White completed the season with an unblemished record of 15-0. White defeated four opponents before sweeping the finals by a score of 6-4 and 7-6. Also participating in the state tournament were Jon Lovern, Barney Parkey, and Steve Hodge. Senior Jon Lovern went undefeated in regular season play and was runnerup in the regional tournament. Lovern was defeated in the first round of the state tourney by a score of 8-2. Junior Barney Parkey completed his regular season and tournament play with a 10-1 record. Parkey’s only loss came in the first round of play. Also performing well all season for the Tigers was Steve Hodge. Hodge completed the season with an 11-1 record. Senior Scott Burton placed fourth in the regional tournament while junior Zane Phlegar lost a very close match in the first round of regional play. Inexperience plagued the girl racketeers in this spring's season, but Coach Bailey hopes his four returning players will lead the girls to a winning season. by Ellen Thompson Tiger Tribune 34 79 First Row: L-R: K. Staff members of the Tiger Tribune are dedicated to presenting news with an objective viewpoint. This year the newspaper staff published nine newspapers. The December issue con- tained sixteen pages, the first paper of that size published at PHS. In addition to publishing “The Voice of Princeton High School,” staff members spread Christmas cheer with candy and conversation to patients at Princeton Com- munity Hospital.
