TIGER Princeton High School Princeton, West Virginia DAYS TO West Virginia's 100th birth- day; a memorable year for its every citizen. Wonderful things Sum iner Play Days REMEMBER’’ of S0«0 Montani Semper Liberi Centennial Year Graduation Day The purpose of any annual is to record, reflect and recall through words and pictures the people, the events, the days during the school year. During these DAYS TO REMEMBER, there have been times when in one sense or another we've made mistakes, but we have met successfully a lot of lively and bewil- dering challenges, and we've often had fun doing it. Here, at any rate, is how we remember the days of this our last year at P.H.S., momentous, often anxious, always exciting, the minutes and hours we have just lived through. We of the Annual Staff have recorded for you memories which otherwise would be lost; therefore, we the staff of the 1963 TIGER hope that the contents of this book will preserve some of these memories so that, in the future, you may turn back the pages and relive some of the happy times, warm friendships and eventful days of your life at P.H.S. Who knows how the future may remember these days? If we reflect back later on how we did manage to deal with the challenges of the last ten years, perhaps we'll have a better perspective on the challenges of the next and the next. Your Editor, 4 EDICATION which we, the students of Princeton Highij b can recognize a person is to dedicate ou Kbook to him. In appreciation of your high ideals, with admiration and respect, ve the staff of the '63 TIGER, on behalf of the Senioi Class, dedicate this book to you, Mr. RobuSt L. NOT TO RULE BUT TO GUIDE, NOT TO ADMONISH BUT TO INSTRUCT What greater honor could be paid any teacher than to be elected the favorite teacher of the graduating class? We quote the Seniors as they bestow this honor on Mrs. Wands Hughes: She's taught me more than any other teacher -- Her classes are so interesting I want to learn and try twice as hard -- I have had two classes from her and she's TOPS -- She strives to improve herself as well as her stu- dents -- She always has a smile and a kind word for everyone -- She is thor- oughly dedicated to her profession” -- It is impossible not to learn in her classes, for they are interesting as well as informative” -- She really strives to prepare us for college -- She loves to see people squirm and she sometimes makes us nervous with pop quizzes, yet she can stimulate anyone to study -- She can sure get her point across -- She has set every student in her class to thinking what this world is all about -- She teaches more than World History, she teaches us good citizenship -- 'She has interesting discussions and provides outside materials to emphasize her lessons” -- You have to do everything she tells you to, and you learn something whether you want to or not -- She is interested in every student -- She helps anyone when they need it” -- An excellent teacher, who shows no partiality, and is fair in grading” -- I can truly say that she is the most helpful teacher I have had in high school -- She is enthusiastic and consistent in attitude” -- I feel I have learned more from her than from any other teacher I have had” -- P.S.: She has a big kind hart. WHAT IS LEFT TO BE SAID? These lines are dedicated in loving memory to Mr. Melvin McClain, former Principal, who gave countless years of devoted service to Princeton High School. Through his personal strength, stature, and wisdom, he guided the youth of our community, earned the respect and regard of his faculty, and made for himself a host of friends. His sunny disposition, kindness, and sympathetic understanding will ever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. 13 Garnet Thomas Jennalie Wheeler Glady Smith Ethel Shultz Joe Curto Stanley Shultz Cafeteria Manager Garnet Cook Our thanks to those who served Princeton High so well through all the days of 62-63. TO PRINCETON HIGH To PRINCETON HIGH our eyes looked up, Our hearts were filled joy, When first we stepped into these halls, A growing girl and boy. And through the years our minds grew well, In knowledge, love, and truth, And from these halls we now emerge, Matured, but yet in youth. We all have learned from you our guide Though some of us have failed, Yet all of us have gained some truth, Through which you have prevailed. Oh PHS! The tears now come. They come from within our heart, For there sadness begins to grow, As now we must depart. Yes we must leave as all youth must, But within our hearts its true. That none of us shall e'er forget, How much we owe to you. Claude Houston Class of '63 15 SENIORS 63 Carol Meadows................Secretary Virginia Bennett..............V. Pres.
