We looked or ward to a successful season, since there were many veterans from last year. To get the boys in top shape Coaches lingoli and Wood planned many hours of good hard calisthenics. We scrirnmaged against Free hold and twice against the l-lun School win ning all the games by large margins. Miss Guests hockey enthusiasts also be gan their sports training early. Fundamental skills such as driving and stopping the ball dribbling, and tackling were explained and demonstrated in these practices and at tempted by all the girls Our cross country team began to shape later in September. lvlr. Niles put the boys through vigorous exercises to limber up their muscles. The purpose of the patrol is to supervise student traffic and conduct in the building between classes and lunch periods. We practiced several days each week and competed in class competi- tion Wednesdays. The Sophs were the unde- feated victors in these games. ln our first inter-scholastic games, played at Miss l:'ine's, the Varsity lost, 4-2, while the Iunior Varsity Won, 2 - l. November 2 We were guests at the Hightstown play day. Fighting hard, we UM 601111 a Eanq! beat Iamesburg, 3 - O, and tied with Hights- town, l - l. November 18 four class teams travelled to Hamilton. The Freshmen and Senior games ended, O-O, and, l -1, respectively. The Iuniors overcame their opponents, 2 - UQ the Sophs were defeated, 2 - l, We were hosts to Hamilton, November 23. C A STUDENT COURT The Student Court the judicial branch of the student government functioned this year under Chief lustice Lynn Corson and Chief Prosecutor Walter Stryker. Under the direction of Mr. Orville Spessard, the court has handled all cases that were brought to its attention. Among them were the unlaw- ful use of activities tickets, misbehavior in assembly, disorderly conduct, and breakina into lockers. A l9fl8 loss in a thrilling and hard fought game with Lakewood followed. Sparked by the good playing ot l'Slcip Hall and Bob Dilatush, Princeton High com- pleted its varsity season with a 2leO victory over Highland Park. All in all the squad under Coaches Iosf eph Iingoli and Richard Wood completed a highly successful season, winning live games and losing tour. The I. V.'s, under Coach Wood, come pleted a most successful season with three wins, two losses and one tie. Led on by such players as Iake Bartolino and Rudy Shelton, they defeated the I. V. squads from Trenton High, B.M.l., and Hamilton. They lost to Ane nandale Reform School and Peddie, and tied Somerville. The Lightweights, coached by Mr. Iose eph Friel, also had a successful season, compiling victories over Lawrenceville, Somerville, and Peddie twice, losing only to the Trenton Catholic I. V.'s. Homeroom teams were chosen with each homeroom competing for the championship banner. The homerooms that came out on top and received their ban- ners in the Awards Assembly, Ianuary 5, were rooms 203, Freshmen, 224, Sopho- mores, l33, Iuniorsg and 206, Seniors. The Homeroom competition was brought to a thrilling climax with the game between Senior Homerooms 206 and 219, played dur- ing lourth period with a large crowd of rooters present. The teams, evenly matched, were tied at the half. With less than a min- ute to play a basket and a foul shot by Ioan Shorten brought her team ahead to win the game. Assisting the Editor-in-Chief were Polly Bright, in charge ot activitiesg Mildred McCool, girls' sports: Peter Bibbes, boys' sports, Mabel Boyden, identifications: Doris l-lolcombe, artg loyce Adams, typing, Bobert Flory, photography. To help finance the book 250 patrons were secured by Virginia Mondone and her stait, 7l8 subscriptions were obtained by the subscriptions committee headed by Cath- erine Kahny and Clarence Chang. Standard orchestral selections suitable tor school assembly pro- grams were rehearsed and studied by the group, Much ot their time was spent on sight reading, phrasing, and balance. This group is growing rapidly, and it is expected that an orchestra at sixty will be ate College at Princeton University to enter- tain the principals of some of New Iersey's high schools. With the Choir they also par- ticipated in an exchange assembly program with Hamilton High School. The final choral event of the year was the annual Spring Concert which was held in our auditorium April 29. 911.41 tion has been given this year to forty-tive violin students, who will eventually attain the required ability to play in the orchestra. The instrumental program is planned in such a way that all choirs of the orchestra will have a complete instrumentation. The tracksters journeyed to Franklin Field April 29, Where they participated in the Penn Relays. Some ot the teams they met in dual competition during the season were Trenton High, Long Branch, Trenton Catholic, Somerville, and North Plainfield. Running in the mile for Princeton were Dick Hogarty and Iohn Muller, the halt mile, Ioe Stonaker and Charlie Cottrell, quarter mile, George Sickel and Bill Harper, hurdles, Dick Zimmerman and Bob Rivers, sprints, Iimmie Scudder, Theron Calkin and Bubby Fletcher.
