Math Under the direction of Mrs. Mar- garet Spivey and Mr. Durward Jones, the school worked toward its goal of helping the department establish a broad education in the field of Mathematics. Advanced Math, and General Math, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and Con- sumer Math successively provided a general coverage, as well as, college preparatory work. They believe that mathematics has cultural as well as practical value. Also, they cling to the theory that used to be called for- mal discipline, which insists that the mental discipline required in the study of mathematics affects one’s approach to and solutions to other problems. 14
