Challenger 1969 Vol. XV Published by the Senior Class Princeton High School Princeton, North Carotin SOLEMNLY I STAND HERE Oh so solemnly he stands. His face toward the horizon His back to trudgery , misery - In his hand , A battle-scarred lance Reflects the last golden rays Of the fleeting sun. Reminiscing of yesterdays, He ponders the courage, and gallantry That near-failure took And he shakes apprehensively. Then he dreams of tomorrow - Of the joys there’ll be. And the sorrow And if he will have courage To face The challenge of all his tomorrows. - Alan Daughtry Contents Administration Faculty Organization Athletics Favorites Classes Elementary Advertisements 3 Dedication She gave us her words, her knowledge of under- standing, her ideas of education, her unbiased opinions of ourselves. We gave her in return for her labors the one commodity that she so desired - our most apprecia- tive and affectionate respect, ripened with the wisdom she dealt us. We, the class of 1969 dedicate our annual to Mrs. Janyce Oldham. 4 ADMINISTRATION . M. Turnage TO THE SENIORS and be a constant companion always. Sincerely, ]. M. FACULTY Communication — The Key to Individualism 13 Math Under the direction of Mrs. Mar- garet Spivey and Mr. Durward Jones, the school worked toward its goal of helping the department establish a broad education in the field of Mathematics. Advanced Math, and General Math, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and Con- sumer Math successively provided a general coverage, as well as, college preparatory work. They believe that mathematics has cultural as well as practical value. Also, they cling to the theory that used to be called for- mal discipline, which insists that the mental discipline required in the study of mathematics affects one’s approach to and solutions to other problems. 14 Science Department From atoms to infinity, the world of science is a world for the curious and the persistent, as instituted by Mrs. Claudia Hollowell and Mr. Thomas Powell. 15 Lickii Ceptreville, •F rattet r ir L f r u. ry Eminence JsKft. In only six weeks, I learned twelve new ways to offend! Now, the mere sight of me is enough to make people Nauseous! B-But Carol! I love the Captain! If it’s true that he loves me , then I must leave! And if that does not make any sense to you, it makes even less to me. I still can’t figure out who gave me that bottle of Scope! Got any chewing tobacco anyone? Carry on! I do not wish to be dis- turbed ! I have a full day of hanging around to do! Aw - I don’t really bite ! I do wish Mother would use new FAB with Borax instead of brand X! Sophia Loren??? I charge everything to Dinner’s Club card. Then, when the bill comes, I put it on my American Express card. And when that bill comes, I put it all on my Carte Blanch card. I ' ve got enough Credit Cards to last me eighteen months or more! Hey Katheryn, at first glance, the EXAM ap- pears to be nothing more than a few hundred ques- tions all carefully worded to be vague and then sloppily mimeographed to be illegible.
