This group of the ship is made up of highly trained men who are responsible for the main- tenance yand operation of the two I-I-4 type cata- pults' and the eleven arresting gear engines. From the time the first plane leaves the deck until the time the last plane lands, V-2 Division is constantly alert and ready and in a large part responsible for the pilot's life. The Arresting Gear crewmen are stationed port and starboard along the deck edge, from the island structure to the stern. It is their job to see that the pilot's plane is safely brought to a stop. The catapult crewmen are charged with the responsibility of properly hooking each aircraft into the catapult, setting correct pressures, and firing the machine. Together the catapult men and the arresting gear men of V-2 Division make up a vital, unbeatable team on whose shoulders rests a large share of the striking power of the Princeton. Mlorking directly beneath the men of V-2 on the Hangar Deck are the oflicers and men of .... From pre-dawn to after dusk you can see yellow jerseyed plane directors standing inches in front of slicing propeller blades sig- nalling the pilot where to taxi his plane, blue clad plane-pushers constantly respoting, towing and chocking aircraft, and the red jerseys of repair 8 sprinkled over the flight deck. It is their job to keep the all important flight deck in tip-top shape, from the tearing out and re- placing of huge wooden planks to the every day cleaning. They also fight fires!...the fearful raging infernos of burning gasoline that can wreak havoc. Only through the highest degree of eihciency and teamwork between the men of V-1 does the handling of aircraft on the crowded flight deck reach the perfection necessary to eliminate disastrous trafhc jams.
