Their main function is manning radar scopes twenty-four hours a day, and using the information to obtain courses, speeds and altitudes on all contacts. Maintain- ing constant communication with all ships in the Task Force and many other allied units, they also have communication with our planes and control them from the time they leave the Force until they arrive safely back on deck. VVithin the task force they are called on for many recommendations to retain the shipls pro- per place in the formation. When only steam- ing, the information obtained in CIC is an in- valuable aid to the navigator.
