Hurricane Gloria picked up speed and veered north yesterday, causing government ither forecasters to Issue hurri- cane warnings from the Carolina to the Merrimack River north of Boston. More than 200.000 residents in North Carolina. Virginia and Maryland boarded up coastal homes and fled for high ground.
