SENIOR CLASS HISTORY On August 30, 1943 fifteen little demons came tripping through the gates of Primghar Grade School and up to the Kindergarten room patroll- ed by Miss Betty Flinders. This was the day of days and these little demons were: Barb Cassidy, Pat Wagner, Judy Schultz, Jeanette Hopkins, Bev Peterson, Clarisse Kamrath, Betty Peckham, Janet Hagenbucher, Betty Fortner, Don Davis, Gaylon Fear, Wayne Hardin, Daryl Hofmeyer, Delbert Mathieson and Rocky Nicholson. At the end of this year we lost Jean- ette Hopkins, Betty Ann Peckham, Betty Fortner, Gaylon Fear and Bev Peterson who was beginning her journey to other schools. As time flies the kindergarteners soon moved over to fill the lst grade rows in the same room. They were: Barb Cassidy, Don Davis, Charles Fjeld, Janet Hagenbucher, Wayne Hardin, Daryl Hofmeyer, Clar- isse Kamrath, Delbert Mathieson, Rocky Nicholson, Judy Schultz, Larry Smith, Pat Wagner, Betty Sheridan and Joan Rozendaal. In this grade we were Joined by Charles Fjeld, Larry Smith, Betty Sheridan, and Joan Rozendaal. Our teacher was still Betty Flinders. In second grade Gene Peterson greeted Barb Cassidy, Don Davis, Charles Fjeld, Charles Forman, Wayne Hardin, Daryl Hofmeyer, Jim Kam- merer, Delbert Mathieson, Rocky Nicholson, John Smith, Bob Smith, Larry Smith, Janet Hagenbucher, Betty Peckham, Joan Rozendaal, Judy Schultz, Betty Sheridan and Pat Wagner. At the beginning of this year we found we had lost Clarisse Kamrath. We had gained: Charles Forman, Betty Peckham, Jim Kammerer, John Smith, and Bob Smith. By the time third grade rolled around, Bob Smith and Larry Smith had left us for the second grade and Charles Forman and Betty Peckham had moved away. We were joined by Caroline Kelly, LeRoy Trower, Loren Zoet and Don Greenlee. Our teacher was Edna June Nelson and our class con- sisted of Don Davis, Wayne Hardin, Daryl Hofmeyer, Delbert Mathieson, Rocky Nicholson, Loren Zoet, Donnie Greenlee, Charles Fjeld, Jim Kam- merer, John Smith, LeRoy Trower, Barb Cassidy, Janet Hagenbucher, Joan Rozendaal, Judy Schultz, Betty Sheridan, Pat Wagner and Caroline Kelly. We were guided by Mona Tullis in fourth grade and found we had lost Janet Hagenbucher and Caroline Kelly to other schools but both their places were more than filled by the Hquietn Clyde Kramme and Rodney Dornbusch. The eighteen little fourth graders were: Don Davis, Rodney Dornbusch, Charles Fjeld, Don Greenlee, Wayne Hardin, Daryl Hofmeyer, Jim Kammerer, Delbert Mathieson, Rocky Nicholson, John Smith, LeRoy Trower, Clyde Kramme and Burdette Menke. We hadn't lost anybody but Charles Forman had returned to us bringing our count to twenty. We were: Donnie Davis, Rodney Dornbush, Charles Forman, Donnie Greenlee, Daryl Hofmeyer, Delbert Mathieson, Rocky Nicholson, Loren Zoet, Bruce Ewoldt, Barb Cassidy, Judy Schultz, Betty Sheridan, Pat Wagner, Joan Rozendaal, Charles Fjeld, Jim Kammerer, John Smith, LeRoy Trower, Clyde Kramme, and Burdette Menke. While there, I found that each unit had two maids, air conditioning and television. After say- ing good-bye to John, I headed toward Primghar, my old home town. On the way to Primghar, I saw a large crowd gathered in front of the Alta High School. I decided to drop in and find out what was going on. Once inside, I found Alta's girl's basketball team being trounced by the Primghar Ball Club. I found that Carl Anderson was coaching at Alta. He said that his team had had a wonderful streak of thirty losses. I asked him how he could possibly keep the team in such shape and he said he did it by chasing them around the gym floor. Then I continued on to Primghar, I was surprised to find that old P. H. S. was still standing. While going around the square, I saw Don Davis glancing out the window of the familiar Schubert's Clothing Store. I decided to drop in and visit the old chap for awhile. After eating a delicious meal that his wife Bonnie had prepared, I continued on my way to Robert Hagedorn's farm. When I reached the farm I found he was a bachelor. Robert in- vited me to stay at his house that night. The next morning after hav- ing a good breakfast with Robert, I learned that LeRoy Trower lived in the vicinity of Hartley so I decided to venture over to see him. I arrived at his farm that same morning to find that he was farming with his in-laws. While talking to LeRoy he told me that one of his former classmates, Harold Van Der Sloot, had a show at the television station gt1Sioux Falls. Hearing that I turned west and headed toward Sioux a ls. I arrived at the KELO-TV station just in time to see the begin- ning of Van's Midwest Hayride. Imagine my surprise when Bev Peterson an old P. H. S. student was doing the commercial for the Snort Filter Tip Cigars. I was shocked even further to find that the producer of Snort Cigars was none other than Rocky Nicholson, another P. H. S. fan. Considering myself a traveler, I continued on my way, this time heading to Denver, Colorado. On the outskirts of Denver, I saw a huge billboard advertising HGuss' Reducing Salon.H Seeing the name Gus re- minded me of an old nickname for Judy Schultz back at P. H. S. so I drove into Denver and inquired about the salon. From the description of the weighty owner of the salon, I decided to buzz over and see if it really could be Judy. The minute I stepped in the door I knew this was Judy. With the help of her ex-marine she had established a suc- cessful business. 21 Learning Barb Cassidy was a resident of Denv e I d ' her up but no one answered so I continued on my jo5rney,ec1ded to call Early the next morning I took off for Colorado Springs. I was speeding down an open stretch of highway when all of a sudden I heard a siren and saw a red light approaching from the rear. I pulled off to the side of the road and waited for the friendly patrolman to trot up beside my car. When he handed me a ticket signed Bob Mulder I was struck speechless. After a friendly chat with Bob I continued on to Colorado Springs. I stopped to take a dip in the pool at Colorado Springs to cool off. As I was walking across the beach I saw a familiar pair of legs protruding from under a beach umbrella. I peeked under and found the familiar face of Don Greenlee. He was vacationing in Colorado Springs on the profits from the Greenlee Food Market. I planned my next stop to be Los Angeles, California, but it didn't turn out that way. As I was driving across the desert, who should I meet but Gary Kohlstedt. He was living in a rambling shack set in the middle of a sand dune. He hadn't reached his destination of the University of Florida but thought the climate in Nevada was an excellent place to train dancers for Leona Steffens' Chorus Line. Upon leaving this I decided to stop in and see Leona when I went through Chicago. Driving through the residential district of Reno, Nevada, I saw a sign advertising the Lonely Hearts Club operated by Chuck Fjeld. Talk- ing to Chuck, I learned that he had become a marriage broker in the Lonely Hearts Club because he thought that his experience with girls fitted him for the Job. On the way back to Iowa I met Larry Heemstra in the Rocky Moun- tain National Park. He had become a forest ranger and was spending his spare time whittling wooden shoes. I wa After visiting with all of the former seniors, I headed home to o . ,9 o J,'-fkS!. .Keg It ' ' M 461235 ai 22 .J F f- J J rn NH W 1, X WZ F' XFX NX Intl- xg 4:1455 F53 - as we el KKJQ 'srl F24 Raw: . 1 W Q 'X , : N X sw GN Q 3 Y IUNIORS X V -7 - ff A' wifi ' 2' ,, ' , B f' ' 4 f 1 K , E 5 Q' WWZQ iqf'5E? ine ag ' gg ww, ,aww ,1,t g. After the parade a giant pep rally was held around the bonfire. On Friday afternoon the band led the floats in a parade around the square stopping at each interesection where the student body, band and townspeople participated in pep music and talks. The crowning of the King and Queen took place at the football field during half-time. The band formed a huge crown in which Bob Byers, President of the Jr. Class, crowned Don Greenlee, King of Homecoming. The King in turn crowned Judy Schultz, Queen. The Queen's attendants were Lennie Smith, junior, Kay Sturdevant, sophomore, and Mary Seivert, freshman. The floats were also displayed and judged at half-time. The sopho- more's float was announced as winner of first place, with the freshman float taking second. The senior float carried the Queen and her atten- dants. The Homecoming dance was held in the gymnasium im ediately after the game. The Juniors decorated the gym beautifully with a large football hanging from the center of the ceiling. At the side and ends hung red and white streamers. Everybody enjoyed dancing to the smooth music of Tommy Thomas. 60 JUNIOR-SENIOR PROM The social highlight of the year, the Junior-Senior Prom, was held Saturday evening, April 28. The annual banquet was served in the gymnasium. Half of the floor was used for the placement of small banquet tablesg the other half was used for the Prom dance. The gymnasium was decorated very beautifully with the accent of the theme HApril in Paris.H The wonder- ful meal was served by the Catholic ladies. After eating John Longstreet acted as Master of Ceremonies at the program which consisted of music, speeches and the class prophesy. Right after the banquet the dance was held. The music was furn- ished by Ding Ellis and his orchestra. The Juniors theme was carried out very well, with beautiful Paris decorations. When her father becomes ill she is sent to visit her city relatives, Dr. and Mrs. Mason. The Mason youngsters, especially Kathy, expect Penny will be a stupid coun- try hick who just won't fit with their pals. Anne, Tessa, Patsy, Jim, Elaine, Parker, and Wallie, their pals, decide to give Khthy just what she is looking for, a dumb hick cousin. Anne and Tessa go to the sta- tion to meet Penny and they get her to play along with them by changing her appearance completely. The town, to this time, is up in arms over a young burglar who calls himself the Midnight Son and who rifles the wealthy homes ----- always at midnight. Butch breaks into the Mason home one night and is believed to be the Midnight Son. Actually, he is try- ing to return the loot which the real Midnight Son had taken, the Mid- night Son, being his foster brother. Butch and Penny prove to be kin- red spirits and though Penny really thinks Butch to be the Midnight Son, she feels sure she can make him see the error of his way, Final- ly, at the party given by the Masons, the real trouble comes to light and Penny makes her appearance for the first time as her real self--- beautiful and talented young lady. 62 SENIOR CLASS PLAY HTHE TERRORH For his fraternity initiation, Johnny Russell must spend the night in a supposedly haunted house. His college brothers rig up a lot of gadgets to frighten him. What they don't know is that the place is inhabited by HThe Terrorn who starts out to make it miserable for all of them. From then on the play is one mad rat race of fun, laughs, and spinetingling, thrills.
