started out to explore the eitv we sa: to our amazement on Flfth Avenue a high sign reading NSe1vert d Co W we doubted its being Charles but found he was the owner of one of the largest clothing stores in New York When we returned to our hotel that night, we bought the evening edition ol the HNev York Centenrdal' of which Dale Cocnran was the editor His see etary vas Arlyce Strand As we ve e glancing at the society page, we found Kay Halbach to be the sooiet editor The next day we decided to contlnue our trip by car and start d out to flnd the best buy We stooped at a garage and were surprised to see Donald Bembe selling the f ithful stand by the Overlands We 1 lt there with a eonv rtlble roadster and stopped at the next gas station o gas When we drove up, who should walk up to the car but Jack Schoep, the owner of the Sinclair Gas Station We left the ne t dav for Los Angeles in our new roadster On our way, we stopoed at a large truck farm to ask directions of the owner, William Fjeld He said that he vas making a good living from hi truck farm and told us not to miss the vaudeville shox in Houston Texas W11CH xas to be our next stop We d1dr't mlss the show and would have been sorry if we had because it starred Lois Coons in the UH1t Comedian of 1061 We h e to male a detour when fe were about twenty miles from Los A ngeles because of e constructlon comoanv putting un 1 l rge steel bridge W found out late that tks companv' eng neer wa the f nous John E Thompson Uoon our arrival Th t afternoon wnlle out on the beach rc hewld e lwmiliar voice yelling UHot Do sn and looked around to see Lloyd Shcley in a zot dog stanc yelling Uuot Dogs, 5J Come lgnt oncr U We went to Santa Catalina I 1 nd that evening for dinner me ere checking ou1 v aes at the Iillion Dollar Casino, 1 spice Ethel St nley and Bernita Dewev as cheek room girls ve h d just arrived that morning and hadr't seen many sights decided to stay two weeks in California On our return home we read of tne famous SCl0HtlSt, Thomas Parry, who was rorklng on one of bis gr at experiments that he was conducting in hi lab in Denver, Colorado At last VG arrixed in Iowa ard were driving down Ualnut Street in Des Moines then we saw 1 large neon sign ndweltislng UMarguer1te's Bewutr Aidsn and found Marguerlte Peterson to be the own r On eturning to ou1 own doorsteps, we decioed that we would n V be able to take another trip as enjoyable and meet o many o uoolmates in such a short time as we h d had on tnls vacation 25 , v. v , ' ' . 1 .. -A U , , 4 ' 0 .0 J i ' - 5 .J L- .
