SAINT THOMAS D'AQUIN Thomas d'Aquin naquit pres de Naples, Italie, en 1225. Encore enfant, il donne des signes etonnants d'une intelligence fort precoce. Alors qu'on l'amene a l'ecole chez les Peres Bene- dictins, il adresse au bon moine qui l'accueille cette simple ques- tion: Qu'est-ce que Dieu? Et, remarquez-le bien, il n'a que cinq ans. Pour trouver une reponse a cette question. Thomas vivra tous les jours de sa vie. Il commence par lutter victorieusement contre sa famille qui veut l'empecher d'entrer chez les dominicains. Une fois revetu de l'habit noir et blanc de Saint Dominique, il ne pense plus qu'a son ame, a l'ame de ses freres, a l'Eglise et a Dieu. Et il travaille. Il travaille nuit et jour jusqu'a en mourir a l'age de quarante-neuf ans. Ce n'est pas pour rien que le Pape Leon XIII 1'a choisi comme le patron de toutes les ecoles catholiques. Car, de nos jours, il semble bien que trop d'etudiants oublient que, meme en dehors des periodes cl'examens, leur vie d'etudiant doit etre une vie d'etude. Demandons donc a saint Thomas d'Aquin, a qui nous oifrons notre annuaire en hommage, de nous donner le gout du travail et 1'amour de l'etude. Demain, dans la vie, nour serons de vrais Americains et de vrais catholiques si nous mettons au service de nos freres et notre tete et notre coeur. Apres tout, notre pays et l'Eglise ne nous demandent qu'une chose: etre des hommes. 6
