Prevost High School are brought to a close. May the pages of this annual tend to strengthen the bond of loyalty that grapples our hearts to our Alma Mater and to one another. May it serve as a repository of pleasant memories, of youthful friendships, and in the future may it offer inspiration, encouragement and hours of retrospective joy to us as loyal alumni. In this yearbook, we have attempted to present a permanent pictorial record of the happiest days of our life - our schooldays. If we have succeeded in this purpose, our efforts shall not have been in vain. 6 7 1 Q DEDICATIO We dedicate our Yearbook to the families in which we have grown from our tenderest years to this day. We feel acutely the weight of the enormous debt we owe to our beloved parents, and our hearts swell up with heartfelt gratitude as we recall the countless benefits they have lavished on us: the soothing cares of infancy, the count- less worries over our childhood days, and the careful guidance of our adolescent years. May the Lord Almighty shower His choicest blessings on all the members of our families, keep them closely knit in fondest love and make them all sincerely desirous of changing the world into a better place to live in, by spreading around the contagion of saintly living and the charm of sympathetic understanding. .-nur-H.: ,z:' :Y-,ev-.- UEDUCATION FCNTAINE DE JOIE lllim . Rene Banville Maurice Clairmont Normand Valiquette VARSITY TEAM Prevost vs. Bristol Aggies BASKETBALL ROUND-UP Prevost High, defending Narragansett Bas- ketball Champions, opened the 1949-1950 sea- son on December third by defeating St. Louis High of Biddeford at the Boys' Club. The Maple Leafs showed the same remarkable teamwork and dazzling speed that enabled them to head the circuit in 1948-49. They then proceeded to down a stubborn Tech. junior Varsity, and rout a less adept opponent from St. Anthony High of New Bedford in two friendly exhibi- tion games. This auspicious start warranted the buoyant confidence with which they tackled a strong Somerset five on January third, thereby initiat- ing Narry league competition. It was a hard- fought contest and the outcome remained doubtful till the final minutes of the game when Frascatore caged two field goals to insure vic- tory. Capitalizing on fast breaks and excellent bucket play, the Nawrockimen, in successive contests, downed Bristol Aggies, whipped Digh- ton, overwhelmed Case and sadly outscored an inexperienced Westport team to run their win- ning streak to five. Throughout these successful encounters Zeke Valiquette and Len Levasseur special- ized in defensive work, while Moe Clairmont set up the plays, thus permitting Prevost aces Chuck Frascatore and Rene Banville to tally high scores, each alternating with the other in garnering top scoring laurels. Stiffer opposition was dueg the fatal day was january 20th. An inspired Diman five gave our boys a gruelling battle. After thirty-two minutes of magnificent play midst the roof- raising din of wildly cheering fans, the Maple Leafs found themselves frustrated by one point. The attempt to establish their supremacy over the O'Keefe-men had failed. Diman won 57-36. Returning to its own gymnasium, the under- dog Prevost team bounced back to humiliate a towering Dartmouth aggregation to the lilting tune of 49-55. Prevost followers savored the joys of triumph and caressed visions of their favorites pitting their savoir-faire against tour,- nament foes in Boston Garden play. Alas! The best laid plans of mice and men! . . january 27th spelled disaster to our hopes: announcement was made that participation in extra-Diocesan tournaments was disapproved. Gloom settled over our camp. That same night, even though the newspaper proclaimed in bold- face type: Prevost favored in Somerset Game, the Maple Leaf rooters beheld a team sapped of its customary zest and vitality. One lone man kept his regular pace posting 21 markers and saving the East-Enders from utter disaster. Prevost vs. Somerset Leonard Levasseur Charles Frascatore Louis Boulay Prevost vs. Bristol Aggies Prevost vs. Dighton Conrad Clairmont Ronald Cadoret Raymond Lacombe 74 Prevost vs. Case The will to win returned however, and Dighton, Case, Westport succumbed one after another before the rampaging Fighting French- men. Unfortunately the spurt was shortlived and on January 14th, at Anawan Hall, Diman again subdued a stubborn Prevost quintet by a heart-breaking two-point margin to clinch the crown. The Slocum-Roaders from Dartmouth, still smarting under the stinging rebuff suffered in the previous encounter, used their height ad- vantage to hand the Nawrockimen their worst thrashing of the season. We lost by seven points: 46-53. Tension subsided and the White and Blue easily disposed of their last league opponent, the half-time score showing a 56-17 lead, our favorites played the last two cantos literally sitting down. Our boys next travelled to Biddeford, Maine, and there, baffled their class A opponents by dazzling speed, ingenious plays and superb marksmanship. The massacre recalled to the history student's mind, Napoleon's Last Charge, since it was deftly administered A la Water- loo style. The seasons final game was played at Ashley Gym, New Bedford. There, the Maple Leafs put to good use all their basketball ability to outwit St. Anthony High completely. Thus ended an interesting season. Four let- downs, and fifteen victories testified to Mr. Nawrocki's masterful coaching. His profound knowledge of the game adroitly and patiently communicated to the boys, produced a marvel- ous combination of basketeers unmatched in the history of Prevost. Congratulations to them all, and though four Starters will graduate in June, we know that next year the new squad of athletes will become the artisans of glorious victories. Congratula- tions are especially due to Maurice Clairmont and Charles Frascatore who earned positions on the All-Narry-League first team. Rene Ban- ville was given second-team rating, and deserves honorable mention for a splendid season of basketball activity. . The first game, played in this city, ended, 55-31. The Maine Parochials kept pace with the Fall River visitors for the better part of two periods, and were down only six points, 24-18, at intermission. But they were out- classed completely in the last half by Steve Nawrocki's Maple Leafs. Prevost gave what was perhaps its best shooting display of the season against St. Louis, hitting for 28 fielders, and 10 out of 12 free throws for a show of accuracy Biddeford fans have seldom witnessed.
