We are loved and wanted at home, and we are loved and wanted at school. A11 over the world we read about the unwanted teen-ager. Here in our school we are guided, guarded, and given the privileges of adults. As we go to take our places in society and business, we hope that we will display to our fellowmen the perfect results of this careful guid- ance and love. We will strive to be responsible citi- zens in the home, in the community and in the oc- cupation chosen by us. 'Il Dedication The members of the Senior class of one thousand nine hundred fifty-five wish to dedicate our AURORA to our coach, Mister William Douglas Phillips, who is also our home room advisor. During the past two years at our high school, he has es- tablished a Champion Girls' Basketball Team, which was the first trophy ever won by our school. Heteaches driver training, American history, Pennsylvania history, and civics, health and physical education. Allof these help many students to success in the future. Mr. Phillips has won the hearts of many students and par- ents during his teaching career in Preston High School. The Senior Class of 1955 FACULTY MRS. Last Will and Testament To whom it may concern: We, the Seniors of Preston High School, Preston Township, Wayne County, State of Pennsylvania, United States of America, positive and of sound mind and body, having studied diligently, industriously, and persistently, wish to rid ourselves of all effects and here do declare this document to be our Last Will and Testament, We bequeath the following possessions to the persons mentioned to become effective on the day of our long anticipated graduation from this honorable institution, June third, nineteen hundred and fifty-five. Ellen Dailey wills her knack of getting around to George Lewis. Betty Realmuto receives Alice Stephen's way of getting a boy friend. Lewis Lee wills his ability to get work done on time to Barbara Laskowski, Irene Brooking leaves her chewing gum to Kathryn Bloomer. Thomas Sampson bestows his basketball figure to Alan Llewellyn. Donald Herman wills his wavy black hair to Mr Phillips. Michael Paluch wills his place on the absentee list to Mary Lou Piesecki. Donna Doyle bestows her giggle and wiggle to Nancy Jo Holbert. Frank Matarese wills his position on the basketball court to Paul Hunt. Richard Murphy wills his quietness to Patty Matoushek. Maxine Dickey wills her seat in the Senior Room to Gerald Neild. Karin Bengds bequeaths her ability to play the piano to Betty Porter. Dorothy Rutkowski bestows her ability to understand Latin I to Anne Malinski. Last Will and Testament Joe Ann Taylor wills her shape to Janice Marold. To the faculty we will our deepest thanks and appreciation for your help and understanding throughout our years of high school. To the Juniors we leave our room, books, and our ability to get our home- work done. To the Sophomores we bequeath our ability to get by in classes. To the Freshmen we will our ability to get along with the teachers. To the Seventh and Eighth Grades we would will some common sense but as we have none to spare, we hope they will accept our sense of humor. This last will and testament of the Senior Class of the year of Our Lord, Nineteen Hundred and Fiftymfive, signed and sealed in the presence of these witnesses. Witnesses Anne Malinski Joe Ann Taylor Attest Dorothy Rutkowski Class History After a delightful summer, we came back to Northern Wayne High, sixteen green freshmen. We were initiated dutifully by the Sophomores. For days we looked like scarecrows or something escaped from Mars but at the end we were full-fledged students of high school. Mr, Stephen Katchen was our class advisor. We shared the room with the Seniors and sometimes felt like browbeaten greenhorns. JoeAnn Taylor and Donna Doyle were chosen as class attendants to the May Queen. We passed our final examinations after much coaxing and cajoling to become Sophomores. Each teacher wondered if he could stand us for three more years. On September 6, 1952, we returned to school in the bright and blue fall, a little more sophisticated. Miss Catherine Kuzmack our advisor, greeted us pleasantly. Our membership had diminished because we lost Mildred Ellicks. We had the privilege of initiating the Freshmen this year. The year passed swiftly. Several of us had started in band when we were in grade school and by now we were 'quite musicians. Some joined choral groups, and others excelled in basketball. Our girls' team had three of its members from our class, The boys also were excellent in basketball. June came all too soon and we all became Juniors. September 1953 we found ourselves back in Preston High School. The name had been resumed in July after the Northern Wayne Jointure had dis- solved. Miss Ann Marie Holmes had replaced Mr, Harold Tesno as our advisor. Mr. Ezra Maudsley had retired and had been replaced by Mrs. Margaret Jessup as Principal. Mr. Douglas Phillips replaced Mr. Leonard Richie as coach. We have fourteen members now. Patricia Tuttle moved to Honesdale, JoeAnn Taylor came back from New Jersey, Robert Heesh didn't return at all, but Karin Bengds came from Pleasant Mount. The first exciting event was the ordering of our class rings from Dieges and Clust. They reached us before Thanksgiving vacation. Our whole class visited the Farm Show in Harrisburg and had an interesting time. Our girls and boys represent- ed us in basketball. Our girls' team won the championship of Wayne County. Ellen Dailey, Donna Doyle, and Dorothy Rutkowski represented us on the team. In April, Miss Holmes planned a money making dance to precede the Junior Prom. In May the Junior Prom proved a decided success, the best attended and enjoyed since the beginning of Junior Proms in Preston High School. Donna Doyle and JoeAnn Taylor were again chosen as class atten- dants to the May Queen. In April the Seniors turned over the burden of Ice Cream, Candy and Soda to us. The year ended with many happy memories. Class History September 8, 1954 and we are at the end of our high school days. We have the smallest membership in the school, fourteen members, Mr, Douglas Phillips is our homeroom teacher, Miss Ann Marie Holmes our Senior advisor, Mr. Peter Lisowski, our Yearbook advisor, so you can see that we lack no help along the way. October 25, 1954 we had our Senior yearbook pictures taken by Cramer's in Carbondale. During me day we procured ads for our book. We thank all the patrons who help us each year. We held our allotted fall dances, one for September, one for Halloween and one for November, The money from dances and candy, ice cream, soda sales will help finance our Washington Trip. Because so many activities were scheduled for the time before Thanksgiving, we decided to give our Senior play in the early spring. Mrs. Margaret Jessup directed the play. Baccalureate exercises, Class Night and Commencement marked the end of many happy years. This day to come, our graduation day, We go but to meet the world's way. Some of us may forge ahead, and do Many things the teachers had hoped us to. ome of us may go to college, 'he larger, brighter field of knowledge. Others may go, and proudly serve, The country's freedom to preserve' Soon we leave the school so dear, The scenes familiar to us here, The hallowed walls, the basketball court, The privilege of entering each sport, The study hall where we used to whisper, The shop where the tools roused a big blister, All contributed to our happiness And possibly to our future success. And so, in leaving you Preston High The sigh a long and wistful sigh. Our fate we take to distant places To meet new work, new challenges, new faces Our sorrow at leaving is deeply sincere, We know we shall find no place more dear.
