Bio joy Bugl 15 Spirit Week Pie eoring, roorbeer guzzling, pyramid building, car piling, and spirit yelling seemed to be on the minds of every PFHS stu- dent during spirit week, held September 23-27, as one of these activities were held on each day. Instead of having the usual dress up days, the cheerleaders wonted to orgonize activities in which more students would participate. Each day during the Jr. and Sr. lunch hours two students representing their class would compete against members of other classes to try to rock up points. The class that obtoined the most points by the end of the week was the freshman doss. They won o cosh prize of $25.00 to put in their class treasury. Students were free to build their class floats on Friday morn- ing and afternoon prior to the parade which took place or 2:30 that afternoon. Despite the cheering efforts of the newly-formed pep club, cheerleaders, and fans, the Bluejoys were defeated by the Grand Meadow Super Larks. The majority of PFHS students danced the night owoy to the music of Inspector. After the applauding hod ceased, a dance routine was performed by Erin Cornwell ond Heidi Koose os o guest speaker wos unoble to attend. The drum roll started ond the tension mounted os Beth Gartner, 1984 Homecoming Queen, ond Kent Gillespie 1984 Homecoming King were in the process of choosing the new King ond Queen. The Homecoming donee wos o great success. The students that attend- ed enjoyed the music of Inspector. The Student Council is providing new ideas to the student body, so the students will get more involved In their school work and activities. The Student Council wonts to reword the students ond also the teachers for their special achievements. Top: Left to Right: Liso Pooen — Treasurer. Shannon Speer — Secretory. This seemed to be the common rheme amongst the P.F.H.S. bond members this year. Shoring the bond room with the choir was o major reason for this. The choir room was lost to the shop classes forcing the choir into the bond room. This shoring forced o reduction in the number of practices to Tuesdays, Thursdays, ond olrernote Fridays. This loss of time mode it that much more difficult to get notes learned, riming down, ond, perhaps most importantly of oil, to keep enthusiasm up. Much to the disappointment of many the number of performances was therefore also reduced. The number of fundraisers wasn't reduced however. A cookie sole ond the sole of chocolate Sonros were just 2 of the many fundraisers held by the bond. These were to be applied towards o planned trip to Minneapolis in the spring. If wasn't always easy but somehow things usually got done. Ports were learned, timing come together, ond the bond rose to the occa- sion — or at least they come close. Perhaps the expectations weren't always os high ond the results weren't always perfect but the bond provided good times ond great music just the some. Wrestling hos been brought bock, but this time P-F hos paired with Harmony in the sport to field o ream. The team wos cooched by 1st yeor head coach Mr. Olson and assisted by Mr. Ofstedol. Heading into tournaments o largely young ond inexperienced team hod bottled their woy to o 4-7 record. This record includes sur- prise win over regional wrestling powerhouse, Caledonia. The 34-00 win was the 2nd time in the two years that the Cords hove come out on top over Caledonia. The Cords headed into tournaments with o teom of 4 seniors. 3 juniors. 2 sophomores, 1 freshman, ond 1 eighth grader. The Cords were led this yeor by Terry Kroling or 145 lbs., with o 19-4 record. Todd Vogts of 105 lbs., 19-5, Don Miller or 155 lbs., 18-6, Phil Fishbougher or 119 lbs., 13-7, ond Tom Hutton ot 167 lbs., 13-9. Several other Cords also hod fine season including Torrey Martin and Phil Hougerud or 98 lbs., Cosey Martin ot 112 lbs. Jeff Nogel ond Dove Clement or 138 lbs. ond Steve Bronner or 185 lbs. Poul Duxbury or 185 lbs. also hod good season until on injury to his ear midway thru the season sidelined him for the rest of the yeor. Overall P-F mode o respectable contribution to the program ot Harmony. The wrestling program looks to be o big success for Presron-Founroin-Hormony. Wrestling 57 Three Times Defter Slowly bur surely the Joys ore improving. Although the Joys hove only won 3 gomes or rhe rime yearbook copy wos sent in rhor was 3 rimes rhe number of wins rhe guys hod oil lost year. The wins come twice from Wykoff by 19 and 5 points, ond o heorr-sropper over Lonesboro by 2 prs. on o lost second shot by Mark Amundson. It moy seem like o broken record bur once again o lock of height ond inexperience said ’ not this year friend'' to o winning season. Jeff Gourcher wos rhe only Senior this year and one of only 2 varsity ployers over 6 ft. roll or 6'2 with Eric Osrrom being rhe other. Jeff wos naturally looked to for o lor of leadership ond managed to respond foirly well. He led in rebounding with on overage of per gome ond wos in scoring with 7.9 per gome. Chad McKenzie, o junior, also was o great help, usually bringing rhe boll down rhe court ond directing rhe offense. Doth of them were well complemented by Eric Osrrom, Mark Amundson, ond Andy O'Connor. Two surprises to many were provided in freshmen Jim Honson ond Heorh Mensink. Jim wos 2nd in rebounding wirh on overage of 6 per gome ond 3rd in scoring wirh 7 per gome. Heorh wos rhe ream's leading scorer wirh on overage of 8 points per gome. The ream os o whole averaged 53% from rhe famed Chari- ty Stripe, ond 33% of their field goal tries. The Joys become more ond more of o unit os rhe year went by. This was because the Joys were usually frying to moke up for o poor 3rd quarter. As of yeorbook deadline rime the Joys hod bottled their way to o 6-10 record. Talent wasn't locking for the guys bur Mur- phy's Low seemed to keep on eye on the ream ond foul things up every so often. Maybe it wos o few missed posses or o men- tal lapse or whatever, bur once it happened everything seemed to happen. However determination ond o solid bench often brought the guys back in it. Several players in- cluding Todd Keune ond Todd Rye provided inside muscle while people such os Frank Bort- sch, Jon Ruud, ond Ben Joerg kept things hop- ping around the perimeter. Todd Keune led in field goal percentage with o 45% overage while Jon Ruud ond Frank Bortsch led or the free throw line with 79% ond 75% respective- ly. The team os o whole mode 32% of their field goal shots ond 48% of their free throws. If their hard work continues in the off season they should be looking forward to o great future.
