The trim of the school needed to be pointed and the school board voted to change the trim of the school from the color of teol blue to the color of cocoa brown. The biggest change wos bringing in the fresh foces of the seventh graders and say- ing goodbye to the Class of 1984 Everyone else moved o step closer to their goal of graduating. Changes abounded in the staff ond in the curriculum. We soid goodbye to the English teacher Karen Honsen (who rook o job closer to her home in southwest Min- nesota), the agriculture teacher Morris Tirrud (who retired after 30 years of teaching), ond Leslie Mirros (for first semester while on maternity leave). The vacancy in the English Deportment wos nor filled. Instead Mr. O'Reilly ond Mrs. Hoken- son were each given 2 sections of 3 grades each. The German which hod been taught by Mrs. Hokenson wos taught by the high school principal, Mr. Hoeffner. Because there was no one ovoiloble to teach it, speech wos dropped os o graduation re- quirement. While Mrs. Mirros wos on leave, Mr. Hokenson taught the Computer I class. As o result of the budget cuts ond the retire- ment of the Presron-Founrain teacher, the agricultural curriculum was transferred from Presron-Founroin to Lonesboro. Those stu- dents who were interested in Agriculture classes were bussed to Lonesboro os were the advanced biology students. Additions to the Presron-Fountoin curriculum included advanced biology and psychology. Stu- dents from Wykoff were able to attend analysis, physics, German, and health oc- cupations classes or Preston-Fountoin High os well. Because year- book soles hove been down in recent yeors. o new plan was instituted to set the price of the book exactly or cost. After o successful od campaign brought in $2,100, order blanks were distributed to rhe stu- dent body for subscribing to the book. The order was official with o $5 down pay- ment, ond rhe final price set based on rhe number sold. For the first time installment poyment options were also offered. As o result, o much larger number of books was sold. The staff hod trouble getting organiz- ed to finish their poges though. The first deadline was 2 months lore in getting to rhe publishing plant, which threatened to delay delivery of the book. Jomle Irish. 6 Yearbook Sroff All the News Fit to Print Time seemed to be rhe elusive element for the Dluejoy Bugle Staff. With four issues to get written, posted up, ond printed, there just never seemed to be enough of it. Between that ond the numerous staff changes that occurred during this year, it wos omozing that the issues got out of oil. But in the end, they were sold and very populor with the student body. Under the ad- visorship of Mr. Hoeffner, the members rook charge of the Homecoming activities, sponsored severol ofrer-gome student donees, ond tried to raise the necessary funds for their orgonizorion. Meerings were held during the school year on o regular bosis, rotating meeting rimes through the class hours. An enlarged radio show cost prepared o weekly broadcast of the school's events. Broadcasts were over Radio station KFIL in Preston each Saturday morning, ond large local audiences were tuned in. Scripts were written in outline form by the show's pro- ducer, Mr. O'Reilly, ond filled in with specifics by the individual commentators. Ads 9 Spirited Week Starts Off Royally Junior Class Presidenr Michelle Droodworer starred off the exciting week of Homecoming by emceeing the Coronation on Monday, October 1. 1984. Although much of the ceremony was traditional, the lively pep tolk delivered by former student Tom Duxbury was dynamic and different. The large crowd of local fans in attendance wos set in morion, and no one seemed to mind that the ceremony rook a bit longer than usual. Once rhe new King ond Queen were crowned, there wos rhe crush of well wishers to deal with. But even that wos token in stride. The candidates mode it bock into rhe gym in record time for court pictures, ond rhe exciting week hod begun in grand fashion. No one would find ony reason to think rhe rest of the week ordinary either. Aside from special dress-up doys during rhe school day, there wos rhe holl decorating. On Friday, only two class hours met. Class meetings followed, and students then hod only until 2:45 to get everything ready for rhe big parade. The detoured main street mode for o different parade route, bur oil went well. They continued their tradition of quality, nor quantity'’ in several perfor- mances. These performances included o Foil concert and o special appearance on TV. Yes. our choir wos fortunote enough ro be one of rhe schools chosen this year ro be on KAAL-TV (channel 6)’s annual con- cert of Christmas music performed by several oreo schools broadcast on Christmas Eve. The 32 junior choir members also hod o successful yeor. They gave several concerts including rhe Foil concert on November 15rh and a junior high bond ond choir concert February 12rh. With rhe reriremenr of Morris Tifrud ofrer 30 years of nurturing and guiding the dub, and rhe movemenr of rhe Agriculture Deportment to Lonesboro High, little was left for rhe local organization to work with. In theory, rhe group was still on odjunct of rhe Lonesboro program, bur in procricolity rhe numbers just weren't there. It wos o hard blow to take for those who hod worked so hard for years ro build up rhe progrom. New Directions For Performance The spring oil-school ploy, Take It Easy. was presented ro the public on Thursdoy and Friday. April 12 ond 13, 1984 The ma- jor problem facing rhe cost ond crew os well os their director, Miss Karen Hansen, wos scheduling. No matter which spring weekend wos chosen, conflicts abounded. To finally settle rhe matter o Thursdoy- Fridoy scheduling wos finally settled on. The lighr-heorred comedy wos o smashing success with rhe audiences that sow it. The ploy drew in larger crowds rhon ploys of rhe recent posr. Two reasons probably occounr for rhe dramatic improvement in ortendonce. First rhe cost was large, ond their friends ond relatives would oil wont to see rhe acting debuts of their stars. Secondly it was rhe gripping ond well-done dramatic performance that left you thinking, ond brought many bock for the second night’s performance Under the coreful direction of Mr. O’Reilly, rhe story of the hood Dino slowly unfolded ond cap- tured rhe entire audience All expressed o sign of relief or the end of the ploy when Dino wouldn't let his younger brother go down his path. The 6-2 final record showed the results of hours of practice, and excellent team members, including two foreign exchange students. In fact the only season losses come during rhe Harmony gome (o team which was eventually to win the Store Class C Championship in foot- ball), ond to Chorfield in the final tourna- ment gome. Team success is mode up of significant in- dividual efforts. Don Eickhoff led oil scorers with 96 points (40% of oil points scored) ond led oil rushers with 1,415 yards. Todd Ebner completed 50% of oil posses at- tempted during rhe season, most of them caught by Mike Hampel. Mike Hampel also successfully returned o kickoff 94 yards to start one very successful gome.
