The bonfire, built by the sophomore class, cele- brated the event. Friday morning began with the con- structing of floats. The Seniors showed their approval of the new sys- tem by putting the entire Senior class either on or in Mike Nehring’s pickup. The Juniors, not to be out- done. constructed a human pyramid. The first half of the game didn't prove very rewarding. But the hand gave an impressive half time show. Also at half time, the winning floats were an- nounced; the 8th grade won with. Although the Jay failed to win the conference championship, they proved their willingness ami proved themselves by outscoring their opponents 150-66. The offensive line consisted of Boh McKenzie, Charles Bes- to r. Kevin Reirks, Bruce Miller. Dave Snyder. Mark Larson, and John Ristau. These players did a fine job of holding hack the teams and opening holes for Mike Nehring, Pat Falkncr. Dave Mensink. and Joe Afseth. This year Dave Mensink led the team in rushing with 1,144 yards in 262 carries, an average of 4.36 yards a carry, and scor- ing 12 touchdowns. Dave also led the team in tackles followed by Boh McKenzie and Charles Bestor. This year, the Seniors on the team were Mike Nehring, Pat Falkner, Dave Mensink. and Joe Afseth. Also a pecial tribute to those hoys who did not plav. but worked hard in practices. If they had not been there the team would not have done so well. The B team was coached by Mr. Irish. They compiled a 2-4 record. The B team boys all worked very hard, and those coming up to join the A team are sure to he a valuable asset. The C team, coached by Mr. Falkner. had a very Irving season this year. Although the little Jays record wasn;t very reward- ing, they showed much spirit and determination. 13
