English, History, and Language This year in the many history classes of PHS the students learned the importance of our heritage and how it has affected us today. The teachers let the stu- dents discuss many different top- ics pertaining to our government, geography, economics, and the situations of all the countries in the world. Our English departments not only taught us grammar and spelling, but also let us put what we learned into good practice by hav- ing us write short stories and opinions on many different topics. One of the important things that all the students learned this year is how to communicate with our fellow man. Learning these things will certainly help us as we go out into the business world to find jobs and to get along with others. The library was used very much again this year as students could come in during the study halls and look up research materials for schoolwork. Often the library was closed to the study hall group in order to allow a classroom to come in for the entire hour. In this way the class would prepare for oral reports. Also included in the Lan- guage Arts Department was the Spanish class taught by Mrs. Up- ton. Everyone taking this class will agree it has been a wonderful year. Right? Si I 13

Mathematics and Science The mathematics department of PHS triggers calculated desires to achieve. Courses in elementary al- gebra and geometry were fol- lowed bv advanced math and anal- ysis. The freshmen were introduced to algebra, while the sophomores struggle with post- ulates and theorems and relating them to proofs. Higher algebra is a combination of all your algebra and geometry knowledge. Analy- sis is the most advanced and few- est membered class. Striving forward in the complex work of today, Preston’s science department keeps the pace. Chemistry class learned the iden- tification of the elements and the problems of molar volume, mo- lecular weights and formulas. Physics class proves their knowl- edge of the sciences through ex- periments. Biology students study many things from botany, the cell, human anatomy, physiology and zoology. The math and science department is an important part of the cur- riculum at PHS. It is widely learned to remain attuned with the many achievements of today. AUDREY CRITZ-B.S.
