Long hours of work involving many proportion wheels, pictures, rulers, words, typewriter keep, and dummies (or dummy copies) have been done by the various members of the Bluejay Bugle newspaper staff and Jayette yearbook. Because of their accomplishments the editors, co-editors, typists and writers and even photographers are members of this honorary society. We set a goal of producing the best year- book possible. Under the direction of our advisor, Mr. Hoffman, page by page, picture by picture, word by word, we work towards completion of the book and now sit back to await your reaction. 23 Our definition of Happiness. For the fifth consecutive year the chapter took first place in the major carpentry project division at the State Fair. Parliamentary procedure is stressed by weekly par- liamentary practice sessions and by using it in conduct- ing our chapter meetings. Many chapter awards are presented to members each year. The top student of each Agriculture class is pre- sented a scholarship pin. Attendance medals are given to members who have had perfect attendance at chap- ter meetings during the year. Each member of the par- liamentary team receives a parliamentary medal as a re- ward for their work. 26 G. Dahl, B. Gerguson, H. Jahnke. Row 1: N. Karelis, V. Bly, S. Mathison, R. Grant, C. Maust, T. The night before, Barb Poppe was crowned queen by King Dallas Finseth. She wore her regal air well, even while cheerleading during the game Friday evening. To the delight of the seniors their float won first place in competition. The theme was, “We’re on the Right Track to Victory.” The Freshmen won first place in the Jr. High competition with the theme “Lick-em”. An atmosphere of excitement prevailed over the crowd of spectators at the game. At half time the band joined in the celebration. The Bluejays lost to the Chatfield gophers, but their spirit and effort was admirable. The “Unchained Mynds” provided the music for the dance, completing the tradition. Freshmen take First in Jr. High competition. The Seniors float takes first place honors. Dance concludes festive week. 33 STEVEN AUG LU ANN BRUSSE BARBARA BARRETT LARRY BERLAND class motto: “some see things as they are, and say, ‘why?’ we dream of things that never were, and say, ‘why not?’ ” SHEILA BURRESON PATRICIA CONN GARY DAHL 34 DAWN EVERY DALLAS FINSETH NO PICTURE class flower: AVAILABLE peace rose class colors: mediterranean blue and majestic white DEBORAH FITZGERALD KIM GIRARD1N TERRY GRABAU LESLIE GROOTERS STEPHEN GROSS WILLIAM HAMPEL we’re anything brighter than even the sun PATTY HANSON PATRICIA HELLICKSON ROXIE HELL1CKSON 36 DEBORAH HOFF HENRY JAHNKE BRYAN KELLY EVELYN KENDALL we’re everything more than believe SUSAN KRUEGEL WILLIAM LAMMERS GLENDA LINDORFF 37 RUTH LUEHR DALE MARZOLF KEITH MATSON JAMES MEYER GARY MILLER BETH O’CONNOR we’re everything greater than books might mean TERRY O’CONNOR LOIS OLSON 38 ANDREW PEHLER BARBARA POPPE ANTHONY REILLY DENNIS RINDELS GARY SCHEEVEL ROBERT SCHULTZ with a spin a leap alive were alive PHYLLIS SHAW 39 MARY SIMONSON NANCY TESSUM AILEEN THOMPSON GLEN VANDERPLAS ROSALIE VEGLAHN JERALD WINGERT WENDY YASTE 40 we’re wonderful one times one senior personalities Musical Janelle and Jim Flirts Nancy and Steve ■ Friendliest Pat and Denny Individualists Glenda and Tony Studiest Phyllis and Nick Talkative Marloisand Bryan Athletic Dramatic Comical Debbie and Dallas Ruth and Dale Suzi and Larry 41 class rings, prom climax junior year Row 1: J. Marcia and her new “sisters.” marcia makes new friends in a new country Chivalry is not dead! A delightful and lovely person came to be one of us in the winter of 1969. Marcia Canales left her home in Santiago. Chile to begin her stay in Preston as an ISE stu- dent. The Robert Hellicksons opened their hearts and home to her. A sweet, “sock-it-to-me” was frequently heard from Marcia as she learned her new vocabulary from Joey. She beautifully captured all of our hearts. We hope we’ve done as well. 47 spirit of participating now i love you and you love me (and books are shutter then books can be) and deep in the high that down nothing but fall (with a shout each around we go all) there's somebody calling who's we e.e. And nodding by the fire, take down this book And slowly read, and dream of the soft look Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep; How many loved your moments of glad grace. And loved your beauty with love false or true; But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you. And loved the sorrows of your changing face; And bending down beside the glowing bars. Murmur, a little sadly, how love fled And placed upon the mountains overhead And hid his face amid a crowd of stars. 67
