U. S. lt was opened in 1956 with the purpose of providing the Americas with Christian leaders. The school was built upon the heritages of The Texasa Mexican Industrial Institute and the Presbyterian School for Mexican Girls. Fifteen trustees elected by the Synod of Texas but including representatives of such groups as the National Presbyterian Church in Mexico have the overall re- sponsibility for operation of the Presbyterian Pan American School. The Reverend Sherwood H. Reisner. president of the school. is a graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary. He is now a candidate for a doctorate degree. All faculty and staff members are members of the Presbyterian Church. Most of them are active in church leadership and some of them are ruling elders. Starting with this academic year the old Pres-Mex campus at Taft was closed and the program of the new Presbyterian Pan American School was consolidated on the permanent campus being developed near Kingsville. Truly it was a strange, but pleasant, sight to see boys and girls study- ing and living on the same campus. This also is the first year that students from both Anglo and Hispanic-American backgrounds have been admitted. Christian students from Guatemala, Mexico and the United States enrolled. Students now are selected on the basis of ability rather than of need. The thought is of quality, not quantity. A necessary quali- fication for admission is the recommendation of the Session of a Presbyterian Church. The Presbyterian School has two departments now in operation. the preparatory or senior high school and the college departments. A special, intensive Eng- lish course was being planned for the Summer of 1958 Y' J Guadalupe Bustos Senior Class Secretary and Felix Rocha the class president stop to discuss a notice posted on the official bulletin board Stllllll Couhuzla litld KK orli '5 4 Ron Ac LIRRL VALDES ILNIOQ Business Minager 4 Senior Class The Senior Class of 1958 is the first one to enjoy fully the opportunities of the new coeducational program of the Presbyterian Pan American School We the Seniors have worked with this pur pose in mind to make the best out of this our last year in high school and to finish our preparation to enter college From the top of the high school lad der we go now to climb an even steeper ladder college We go out with hopes to establish new better records and to reach new goals of achievement It is with the hope that they will always better themselves that I tell the members of the Senior Class of 1958 So long' Go forth and serve' Felix Rocha Class President T' t 42595 'G J. It grows from a true spirit of Christian friendship and understanding between students and faculty. Merriment is expressed in all faces, smiling faces. There is always a true fellowship. Parties are held almost weekly. Recreational facilities have been increased. The major improvements were the swimming pool and the multi- use courts. They provide new opportunities for sports and fellowship. A rather large building was named Recreation Hall, and used as one. With such opportunities it is difficult to find any- one sad or homesick. This is an important advantage for those who come from distant lands. Sometimes they find the school's life much more pleasant and interesting than at home. ..23... To accom- plish this. opportunities are offered to the students in the form of positions of leadership, responsibility and service. Activities and organizations in our school are varied, appealing and unique. The best opportunity to better our leadership was the work program. said Senior Elma Flores, Student Fellowship Council president. Leadership in action can be found in the Student Fellowship Council, and other organizations, such as the Choir, Octet and JUNTOS Staff. Trips to church conferences and attendance at spe- cial events are opportunities for spiritual growth while the mission work program is an opportunity to serve and carry the Ciospel. Most important of all is the spiritual influence offered by a Christian community. The daily chapel services aid the students in becoming efficient Christian leaders and to develop spiritually. -31- Sundag fprogram Q I I www Junior S0fl3 -110101192 and Others were Plans for the next Sunday were dlscuss members of the Chapman Ranch mlssron ed by each mlgglon gmff during .1 week staff Attending church school taught nrght conference Mr Wall standmg and S0flJ and others was a real experlence or rhe Smron staff are shown rn th15 prepa the youngsters fgtlgn ,pa 1 is The complete Chmman Ranch mlsslon staff and those who xx ere attending the church school are show n In this photograph Later an adult churcl' school xx as organized as uork progressed in this agricultural arer south of Corpus Chrlsll The group stands on the porch of the former resldence xx hlch serxed as the meeting place Students and others vrsnt after mornmg The school bus was a famlllar slght worshlp services of the Frrst Presbyterran outside of the Flrst Church The Reverend Church of Kmgsvllle Joe R Cochran Jr IS pastor An extended Sunday mlssron work program was an lmportant galn durrng the school year wrth students marntaxnmg church schools at Smton and Chapman Ranch The work at Chapman Ranch an agricultural area south of Corpus Chf1SIl was begun 1n the fall whlle the Slnton work was carrled on earl1er Students who do not partlcrpate IH the Sunday mlsslon program worshlpped 1n the Presyterlan Churches ofK1ngsv1lle Expenence 1n teachrng church school and plannrng 3CIlV1I16S IS gamed through the m1ss1on work program wfhrle at the same t1me our students carrled the Chrrstxan message to people who otherw1se would not have heard lf each Sunday ,..
