During The pasT year The associaTion has senT represenTaTives To convenTions OT naTional and sTaTe nurses' associaTions, planned a welcoming ceremony Tor The probaTioners The day They become members oT The school: held monThly social evenTs Tor residenTs oT Maxwell l-lall and Their Triends: sponsored a lending library, and has Taken an acTive parT in The orqanizaTion oT The STudenT Nurses Forum in GreaTer New Yorlc. WiTh The esTablishmenT oT PresbyTerian l'-lospiTal aT l68Th STreeT, a new inTeresT was developed in sTudenT acTiviTies. The TirsT aTTempT made was To organize a program oT physical educaTion. The swimming pool and The play room oTTered a wonderTul opporTuniTy To make This pos- sible. IT was decided ThaT raTher Than begin wiTh The presenT sTudenTs iT would be wiser To iniTiaTe each probaTioner wiTh The plans. Thus was developed The organized rouTine oT Two hours weekly spenT in some physical acTiviTy in Time on duTy Tor The probies. This was accomplished in various ways: wiTh The use of The swimming pool, organized games in The play room, and walks when weaTher permiTTed To places OT inTeresT in The communiTy To acquainT The sTudenTs wiTh The possibiliTies oTTered in New York CiTy. ATTer The preliminary Term, sporTs were To be opTional, buT iT was hoped ThaT enThusiasm would be sTimulaTed enough in The necessiTy of physical acTiviTy Tor nurses. This hope was realized wiTh The compleTion of The Tennis courTs in The hospiTal garden, Each summer Tennis TournamenTs heighTen The inTeresT in This popular game. STUDENT ACTIVITY I N Now The sTudenTs have branched oTT inTo various Tields, and have Taken a renewed inTeresT in The sporTs They were inTeresTed in beTore They came inTo Training, namely, horseback riding, golT, ice skaTing and roller skaTing, and skiing. The Palisades and The newly acquired Cook esTaTe in PorTchesTer wiTh iTs Tireplace offer a wonderTul opporTuniTy Tor ThaT sTeak or poTaTo so necessary on a picnic. Many happy excursions have been made To These places. Rapidly new ideas were born To TurTher The cause, and The DrannaTic Club came inTo being. Following This aTTer a Time was born The Forum and The STudenT PrinTs, and a Lending Library. Now The organizaTions in The hall olzfer a wide varieiy oT ideas Tor anyone TalenTed or inTeresTed. ln June, l933, To prove Thai' nurses were more Than nurses, a handycraTT exhibiT was developed in one day, and displayed on Alumni Day. IT was such a success ThaT now The l-lobby Show is a regular TeaTure oT Alumni Day, coming The day aTTer grad- uaTion each year. To aid The culTure and comTor-T of Those living in Maxwell l-lall, Tea was served each Wednesday aTTernoon Trom Three To Tive. This evenT was sTarTed in The Spring OT l933, using The new class OT February '36 Tor The experimenT, and This TradiTion has been handed down To each succeeding class. Three ProbaTioners acT as hosTesses and all The sTudenTs look forward To Tea Time, Tor iT brings Them closer TogeTher socially and culTurallv. The new class oT February '36 conceived The idea oT The Big SisTer, namely. To selecT one person oT The incoming class as Their l.iT-Tle SisTer, and help Them over The TirsT diTTiculTies and Trials oT Their new liTe. A parly was given Tor Them and aided in The accomplishrnenT oT This idea. Two years laTer iT was decided To hand This Task over To The Senior class, Tor wiTh Their wider knowledge in all Things They were beTTer suiTed To help Their l.iTTle SisTers. Through These acTiviTies we are endeavoring To prove ThaT nurses are more Than nurses. E. KAISER.
