Glover (1913-1975) John Sobey Glover, associate professor emeritus of foreign languages, died on July 31 after an extended fight with cancer. Mr. Glover taught at PC for 28 years, and was forced to retire early last April because of illness. Long considered one of PC ' s more effective professors, he received the 1970 Distinguished Service Award of the board of visitors and the 1971 Distinguished Teaching Award presented by the Alumni Association. Known for his unobtrusive but sincere interest in the individual, Glover was recognized by students for his fairness and concern. We cannot know how much we team From those who never wilt return, Until a flash of unforeseen Remembrance falls on what has been. — Edwin Arlington Robinson Flammonde Billy Tiller (1933-1975) William Floyd (Billy) Tiller, popular associate Athletic Director and assistant football coach, died June 17, 1975 of cancer. Tiller had coached at PC for the last 13 years. His favorite expression was We never lost a game. Time just ran out on us. Wherever he went, Coach Tiller was an ambassador of goodwill for PC. He had become a popular after-dinner speaker, known for his home-spun humor. Tiller graduated from PC in 1955 and was active while a student here. He was a Blue Key campus leader during his years at PC. Tiller had coached at Sumter ' s Hillcrest High School and at Manning High School before joining the Blue Hose staff. 234 Dan Yarborough (1907-1976) Daniel A. Yarborough, Sr., the PaC SaC photographer for many years, died January 4, 1976. Mr. Yarborough was owner fo the Yarborough Studio in Clinton and was past president of the South Carolina Professional Photo- graphers Association. An avid PC fan, Mr. Yarborough was a member of the class of 1929 at PC. At the time of his death, he still worked very closely with PC. Mr. Yarborough was perhaps best known to PC students as the photographer who took their class pictures for the PaC SaC. However, he served the yearbook staff in many other ways. Mr. Yarborough took many of the photographs used in the PaC SaC and could be seen at most major events on campus. He often worked long hours in order to help the staff meet deadlines. Editor ' s Epilogue hundreds of layout sheets, stacks of pictures, and a multitude of vague ideas can emerge into the finished product known as a yearbook. But, somehow, it happens — although not overnight and not without a great deal of work on the part of many people. The production of an annual depends on a number of factors; an editor surely cannot do the job alone. I feel very fortunate in having had one of the largest staffs ever — about 30 hard- working people. The staff sought to produce a yearbook which would be a little different from previous ones. We were confronted with several obstacles from the beginning. Because of a finan- cial cutback, we were forced to reduce the total number of pages and omit color photographs. We also suffered a great loss in January. Dan Yarborough, the PaC SaC photographer for many years, died suddenly. But, we managed to overcome these obstacles thanks to the effoi ts of the staff. Two staff members deserve special mention. Our student photographers, John Arnold and John Weiss, have shown their never-ending depend- ability throughout the year. From last minute requests (demands?) to rushed deadlines, they have been very helpful. The gang at Jacobs Press has been a most cooperative group when dealing with PC students about details for the yearbook. Their knowledge, guidance, and willingness to help us has been very much appreciated. We hope that you see a little bit of yourself in our presentation of a day in the life of PC, and that you remember the 1975-76 year at Presbyterian College for years to come. Reminisce . . . enjoy. ditor, 1976 PaCSaC PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE LIBRARY 3 5197 00118935 9
