A TRYING YEAR FOR PUBLICATIONS This has truly been a trying year for members of the Cadet Staff. Many complications and unforeseen problems plagued the Staff from September through May resulting in the unhappy cancellation of the yearbook in June. However, the disappointment of having no Cadet was too much for some seniors who convinced the school administration to recon¬ sider and rescind the cancellation order. Under very adverse conditions, a group of determined seniors picked up the pieces, went to work, and this book is the result . We hope you will overlook any failings. Though our production may not be ; our intentions were the best.

Excedhn Headache Number 69: Beam Layout. This year, the Beam has eliminated the usual format of the sole editorship of the school paper in favor of a joint editorship in which the responsibilities are proportioned among many. Sensing a need for an underclassman version of the already standard up¬ perclassman oriented column concerning student life potpourri, the Beam has initiated such a column under the questionable title of Bull Shirt. Last year, a new type of article was tried whose purpose was to include as many names of as many students as possible but this year saw the maximum usage of these columns. Their titles, What Did You Do Dur¬ ing the Summer ' What Do You Want For Christ¬ mas ' and What Are You Giving Up For Lent , pro¬ voked the imaginations of many students and their witty and not-so-witty replies caused these articles to rival S)A as the article first read by the students. The cartoons of freshman, Sam Kujava, were includ¬ ed in many Beams, most notably the uncirculated one.

MA TH CL UB Under the moderation of Mr. Ledvina and Mr. Short, this year ' s math club pursued the intricate world of mathematics. Guest speakers from various universities and colleges gave inspiring talks to the members during their bi-monthly meetings. The math club reflects the academic interest of Pre- montre ' s student body. The chess club kicked off its season with after school matches in the library. The Holiday Tournament , an inter-mural affair held during Christmas recess , pro¬ vided many tense and exciting hours of competition for the players and spectators alike. Climaxing the season was the Spring Tournament, an invitational elimination , featuring competition among the best players. A handsome trophy was presented to the surviving strategist. 52
