The 1973 Golf team was chosen in early April after a series of qualifying matches. The team’s season began with the Preble Invitational where the team placed second. The year continued with the conference meet, several tri¬ angular meets and the city meet. Preble’s hope for ending this year’s season in high standings depended mostly on the scores of seniors John Birch, Roger Pierquet, and Kurt Doeren — all three-year veterans. MIDDLE: John Birch taps the ball, aim¬ ing carefully for the hole.

Girls Tennis Team BOTTOM ROW: (L-R): J. Kapalin, M. VonHeimburg, J. Wright, C. Hess, N. Fogel. ROW 2: J. Plouff, L. Verheyden, B. Bradley, B. Giese, M. Kremer. September 21 found the members of the Preble Girls Tennis Team in a nervous fren¬ zy, as this was the day of our first meet. After the loss to East in our opening meet, we went into the September 26 meet with Southwest psyched up and eager to win. And win we did! The final score was 13-4. The top two singles and the top doubles team from the schools were eligible to com¬ pete in the Sub-Sectional Meet. Our team finished in second place, two points behind the winning team. Throughout the season, tal¬ ent, sportmanship and interest were displayed, and Coach Golz plans even more reward¬ ing seasons. Connie Hess displays serving style. Sometimes, even coaches need a pep talk. 79
