3 a 3 1 3 3 •a i a i « ! a a a a I came three thousand miles to study photography at Pratt, but first found myself in the foundation program. I hadn't done a lot of painting or drawing, and certainly hadn't done much with plaster in highschool. The semesters seemed an eternity, and the endless, unencouraging crits almost convinced me that 1 had made a terrible mistake, and perhaps I should have FOUNDATION ART chosen a field of considerably less risk — like medicine. My three room-mates were so talented, and 1 felt like a schmuck next to them; they seemed to complete the assignments with such ease. In these moments of self-doubt and muddy-headed worries I would head for the bathroom for some quiet moments to really think about what I want, what 1 want to say and do, what exactly my priorities are, and do I really have to draw like Leonardo in order to be a good photographer? Looking back now 1 realize that even though it was frustrating, I learned an incredible amount. I still have a few criticisms of the program, and one or two complaints about a professor or two, but it is a valuable program with a lot of information to give, that won't be forgotten.
