Wilderoter From a practical standpoint, a house is only as good as the materials that go into its making. It is the concern of the chemical engineer to provide the proper building matter to achieve the proper structure for our perfect house. Picture, if you can, a designer or architect's dilemma if we were to deny them the use of steel, glass, plastics, paint, and all the other products of chemistry so important to our life today. Under a heap of old Reynold's Numbers and reflux ratios, you can find our Chemical Engineering department, con- templatively kicking a steam trap, dribbling soy bean mash from their fingers and proclaiming the virtue of the holy Yankee Dollar. Tread lightly stranger; the results of their cerebration are awesome to behold.

Fasulo J. Gru essing R. Henderson G, Lachter On the finished blueprint of our house, a puzzling maze of thin lines and cabalistic symbols run through like a thread; unifying the structure and probing towards the world surrounding it. This is the nervous system, along which electrical impulses flow, acti- vating the vital functions we depend upon so heavily. This is the electrical system. The electrical engineer has given us radio to hear with, television to see with, and the telephone to speak with; he e e has extended man's senses so that his home has ¢ Nn 6 l Nn ¢ ¢ I l iT] 0 become an extension of his body. ; During the short time we have been here at Pratt, our department has kept pace with the ad- vances of industry, adding a new communications laboratory, ‘and expanding the scope of the course, which now offers a complete survey of electrical Bo ar) engineering procedures. Now the student learns of the whole family of electron tubes so that when he meets one he can say, I don't remember the gain, but the phase is familiar.”
