HISTORY Little did we know what was in store for the future, as the thirty of us timid souls entered Pratt on that sunny morning in 1946. We thought we were full-fledged mem- bers of the high school, now that we were freshmen, but, unfortunately, the upperclass- men did not let us maintain this attitude for long. Scarcely two weeks had elapsed when we were initiated. The girls adorned themselves in men's shirts, neckties, knee socks, high-heeled shoes, and upswept coiffures embellished with silver spoons. The boys wore short pants, feminine blouses ,ladies' hats, and slippers. Each student wore a huge sign proclaiming his full name, age, weight, address, and height. For one whole week we trudged around the school displaying these signs amidst ridicule and laughter. Friday finally arrived and along with it came our initiation assembly when each one of us recited a four-line verse. At last we had achieved our aim-we were full-fledged members of Pratt. Having had abundant time to become acquainted with our classmates, we elected our class officers with the help of our abiding homeroom teacher, Mrs. Mackimmie. We chose the following class ofhcers: PRESIDENT Edward Wetmore VICE-PRESIDENT Richard Budney SECRETARY Mary Redfield TREASURER Nancy Mills Although we were confronted with few important events as freshmen, we happily completed our first year. Upon our return in September of 1947, we were greeted by Miss Verenis as our new homeroom teacher. We immediately elected our class officers as follows: PRESIDENT Edward Wetmore VICE-PRESIDENT james Hartzell SECRETARY Louva Peterson TREASURER Barbara Kelsey You will recall the oil shortage of 1948 which was the cause of curtailing many of our social events. To us, it meant the opportunity to spend more time with our books and thus become all the more learned as juniors. Thus we completed another uneventful year. At last we were juniors which meant ,of course, that we were also upperclassmen. Under the capable guidance of Mr. Oliver, we again chose class officers: PRESIDENT james Hartzell VICE-PRESIDENT Edward Varney SECRETARY Louva Peterson TREASURER ,. Barbara Kelsey This year we greeted Mr. Pearson as our new principal and we began preparations for our busy junior year. On May 3, the opening day of .junior Week, we arrayed ourselves in red and white jeep hats--a mark of distinction from the rest of the students. On Thursday of the same week, we presented our Junior Assembly featuring Don Cade's Talent Scouts followed by a humorous play. On Friday we completed our junior Week by putting on our junior Prom. The gym was gaily decorated with pastel streamers, wagon wheels, dogwood, apple blossoms, and our huge Maypole erected in the center. After much controversy, we decided upon a program dance which proved extremely successful and delighted all who attended. Our prom was a challenge to many curious people, because it was the first one in the history of Pratt to honor a prom queen. The three candidates were Dorothy Baldwin, Barbara Kelsey, and Bette Zabielski. Dorothy captivated the hearts of the student body and became the queen. The other two girls served as her attendants. We completed our junior year in June, when we again decorated the gym for the Senior Ball. This time it was decorated in blue and white with miniature caps and gowns adorning the walls. At long last we have achieved our aim-we are seniors! Mr. Bateman has served as our homeroom teacher this year and Mr. Oliver and Mrs. Ford have served as our faculty advisers. Our class officers are: PRESIDENT james Hartzell VICE-PRESIDENT Edmund Perzanoski SECRETARY Louva Peterson TREASURER Gloria Nesto With the aid of Mrs. Ford, Mr. Pearson, and Mr. Oliver we made plans for our Osage, banquet, class day, and our commencement exercises. The time for us to say farewell has come and amidst some laughter and tears, we bid our teachers and our classmates a pleasant farewell and journey into the world to seek our fortunes as men and women of the future.
