We are deeply indebted to them for their excel- lent judgment and guidance, and for the many things they have done for the betterment of our school. 4 APPRECIATION During the last two years at Pratt MR. PEARSON has worked untiringly to help us as individuals and as a class. We have never found him too busy to give gener- ously of his time and energy for the solu- tion of our many problems. His guidance will always be valuable to us, and we are privileged to have him as our principal and friend. THANKS We, the class of 1950, wish to express our sincere thanks to MR. ARNOLD D. XQNQ Wi' ,,,..... -,Q 2117 ' 2 an 1 E2 d Q HISTORY Little did we know what was in store for the future, as the thirty of us timid souls entered Pratt on that sunny morning in 1946. We thought we were full-fledged mem- bers of the high school, now that we were freshmen, but, unfortunately, the upperclass- men did not let us maintain this attitude for long. Scarcely two weeks had elapsed when we were initiated. The girls adorned themselves in men's shirts, neckties, knee socks, high-heeled shoes, and upswept coiffures embellished with silver spoons. The boys wore short pants, feminine blouses ,ladies' hats, and slippers. Each student wore a huge sign proclaiming his full name, age, weight, address, and height. For one whole week we trudged around the school displaying these signs amidst ridicule and laughter. Friday finally arrived and along with it came our initiation assembly when each one of us recited a four-line verse. At last we had achieved our aim-we were full-fledged members of Pratt. Having had abundant time to become acquainted with our classmates, we elected our class officers with the help of our abiding homeroom teacher, Mrs. Mackimmie. We chose the following class ofhcers: PRESIDENT Edward Wetmore VICE-PRESIDENT Richard Budney SECRETARY Mary Redfield TREASURER Nancy Mills Although we were confronted with few important events as freshmen, we happily completed our first year. Upon our return in September of 1947, we were greeted by Miss Verenis as our new homeroom teacher. We immediately elected our class officers as follows: PRESIDENT Edward Wetmore VICE-PRESIDENT james Hartzell SECRETARY Louva Peterson TREASURER Barbara Kelsey You will recall the oil shortage of 1948 which was the cause of curtailing many of our social events. To us, it meant the opportunity to spend more time with our books and thus become all the more learned as juniors. Thus we completed another uneventful year. At last we were juniors which meant ,of course, that we were also upperclassmen. Under the capable guidance of Mr. Oliver, we again chose class officers: PRESIDENT james Hartzell VICE-PRESIDENT Edward Varney SECRETARY Louva Peterson TREASURER ,. Barbara Kelsey This year we greeted Mr. Pearson as our new principal and we began preparations for our busy junior year. On May 3, the opening day of .junior Week, we arrayed ourselves in red and white jeep hats--a mark of distinction from the rest of the students. On Thursday of the same week, we presented our Junior Assembly featuring Don Cade's Talent Scouts followed by a humorous play. On Friday we completed our junior Week by putting on our junior Prom. The gym was gaily decorated with pastel streamers, wagon wheels, dogwood, apple blossoms, and our huge Maypole erected in the center. After much controversy, we decided upon a program dance which proved extremely successful and delighted all who attended. Our prom was a challenge to many curious people, because it was the first one in the history of Pratt to honor a prom queen. The three candidates were Dorothy Baldwin, Barbara Kelsey, and Bette Zabielski. Dorothy captivated the hearts of the student body and became the queen. The other two girls served as her attendants. We completed our junior year in June, when we again decorated the gym for the Senior Ball. This time it was decorated in blue and white with miniature caps and gowns adorning the walls. At long last we have achieved our aim-we are seniors! Mr. Bateman has served as our homeroom teacher this year and Mr. Oliver and Mrs. Ford have served as our faculty advisers. Our class officers are: PRESIDENT james Hartzell VICE-PRESIDENT Edmund Perzanoski SECRETARY Louva Peterson TREASURER Gloria Nesto With the aid of Mrs. Ford, Mr. Pearson, and Mr. Oliver we made plans for our Osage, banquet, class day, and our commencement exercises. The time for us to say farewell has come and amidst some laughter and tears, we bid our teachers and our classmates a pleasant farewell and journey into the world to seek our fortunes as men and women of the future. for some lucky boss. From her very first day at Pratt, Anne has played an active part in all the school activities. Her enthusiastic cheerleading, especially during basketball season, will be hard to equal, as will her contributions to publicity committees and her excellent posters. All these activities should help to make Anne successful in her chosen career. Our class wishes you the best of luck, Anne ELIZABETH COOMBS BETTY Girls' Chorus 1, 2, Clef Dwellers 3, 4 president, Dramatic Club 2, 3, 4 secretary, School Play 2, 3, 4, One-Act Play 2, Minstrel 1, 2, 4, Osage Board editor, Student Council 4 secretary-treasurer, Prattler 4, Field Hockey 3 asst. manager, 4 manager, Declamations 2, Orchestra 2, Pi Club 2, 3, 4 president, D. Bud is one of the smiling Irishmen who is full of witty remarks and never fails to make a friend of anybody he meets. His skill in both basket- ball and baseball has brought him much fame and popularity at Pratt and he will be greatly missed on both teams, come next year. Bud's friendly smile will linger in the halls of Pratt long after he is gone. Wherever you find Garda, you'll also find Bev. These two girls are the very best of friends and have stuck together through everything. Garda is one of the mainstays of the baseball team and I know it will be hard to lind another catcher to take her place. It will also be hard to replace her in the chorus and minstrel. With her willingness, Garda should go far. 'I4 RAYMOND DURANT RAY Ray was the last person to join our class. His arrival in November swelled our ranks to the grand total of twenty-eight. He found that many of our class activities appealed to him and he was accepted readily as one of the gang. We are more than pleased that he came to Pratt to graduate as a member of '50. LARKIN EDWARDS BIRD Rifle Club 3, Radio Club 33 Osage,4g Dramatics Club 4. We are very happy that Larkin came to us in our second year. Here is the girl who has led our class scholarship. That Sylvia has straight A's on her report card is taken for granted-proof of the fact is written on the Trustees' Plaque in the main corridor. She has also been a faithful member of chorus and orchestra, and the competent busi- ness manager of our school play. Best of luck in your chosen career, Sylvia. I5 my vr M V .www Y- - a , . .f.w-'- KATE HINCI-ILIFFE SUZI Dramatics Club 4, Osage 4, Clef Dwellers 4, School Play 4, Minstrel 4, Baseball 4. Suzi is always bubbling over with energy and good spirits. She joined our class at the beginning of this year and quickly made friends with the entire school. Suzi's most outstanding feat was her remarkable sales record in the magazine campaign, and with the characterization of Hazel in the school play, she proved herself to be a wonderful actress. Maybe we'll be seeing you soon on Broadway! BARBARA KELSEY Art Club 1, Cheerleaders 1, 2, 3, 4, Hockey 1, SL, 4L, Dancing Club 1, 2, 3, 4, Class Ollicer 2, 3, Girls' Chorus 1, 2, Clef Dwellers 3, 4, Prattler 4, Osage 4, Student Council 4 President, Basketball 1, 2, Baseball Asst. Barbara is one of our best all-around citizens as you may well judge from het election to the presidency of Student Council. She consistently excels in both her studies and school activities. She has been an able member of our field hockey team, and without her the junior Prom would not have been such a glorious success. The best of luck in all you undertake in the future, Barbara! Chick is one of our prized athletes. She has graced the field hockey, DOROTHY KRAAZ DOLLY Clef Dwellers 3, 4, Library Club 4, Minstrel 2, Baseball 4. Usually Dolly is a quiet, good-natured person, but she does have a temper, especially where her various nicknames are concerned. She has been a steady participator in our chorus and minstrels, and she always does every job she sets out to do well, and thoroughly. We're all glad that Dolly was a member of our class, and I know she may look forward to more fun and success. CHICK baseball, and basketball teams for all of her four years and what Pratt teams will do without her is more than I know. Gloria has another side, too. Have you ever seen her type? It makes you dizzy! Lots of luck, Chick, you will make a wonderful secretary, we're sure, if you go at your job the way you tackle most things. 16 BEVERLY OLSEN BEV Baseball 1, 2, Basketball 1, 2L, 3L, 4 Co-Captain, Girls' Chorus 1, 2, Clef Dwellers 3, 4, Prattler 3, 4, Minstrel 1, 2, 3, 4, One-Act Play 2, Student Council 2, Cheerleading 3, Dramatics 3. Despite her large variety of nicknames, Beverly prefers to be called Bev. She has an unending supply of laughter, and with Bev there is always plenty of fun and giggles. She has taken part in a great many activities and has proved her skill on the basketball court. Her easy-going manner and quick sense of humor have brightened many a dull study hall and classroom. Diz is the girl who can't be serious no matter how hard she tries. She has kept our class supplied with laughs for four years now, and her giggle is a familiar sound in roomsix. There is a serious side to Frances, though, as shown by her fine drawings. A look through this book, and you'll see what I mean. just wait, someday you'll see some of Diz's art work in the leading magazines. ELIZABETH PALAU LI Z Z Y Field Hockey 1, 2L, 3L, 4 Captain, Girls' Basketball 1, 2, 3, 4, Base- ball 1L, 2L, 3L 4Lg Girls' Chorus 1, 2, Clef Dwellers 3, 43 Prattler 4g Osage 4, Science Club 1. Lizzy is a quiet, unassuming girl as far as appearance goes, but just say something against the New York Yankees and see what happens! Liz can be depended upon to do any job, and do it well. She has top athletic ability, and her willingness, co-operativeness and patience will help her in whatever she undertakes. A bright future is certain for Liz. EDMUND PERZANOSKI PERZY Soccer 1, 2L, 3L Co-Captain 4, Basketball 1, 2L, 3L, 4Lg Baseball 1, ZL, 3L, 4Lg Track ZL, 3L, 4Lg Student Council 3, Vice-President 4, Class Vice-President 4, Pi Club 3, Vice-President 4, Osage Board 3, 4g Prattler 3, 43 Boys' Glee Club 2, 3 Treasurer 4, Minstrel 2, 3, 4, Science Club 1, Forum Club 2, One-Act Play 1, School Play 3, Dancing Club 1, Dramatics 4. With a long name like his, one might expect a long-haired profes- sor of philosophy, but cut it down to Perzy and you have one of Pratt's star athletes and a swell guy at that. There isn't much that Eddie hasn't done well, but he will be especially remembered for his athletic prowess. If he runs his life as successfully as he runs the half-mile, we'll be hearing more of him in the future. I7 LOUVA PETERSON DEEDEE Minstrel 1, 2, 3, Dramatics 2, 3, Prattler 2, 3, 4, Clef Dwellers 3, 4, Osage Board 4, Hockey Manager 3, Class Oflicer, Secretary 2, 3, 4. DeeDee is a petite blonde with a friendly smile and a pleasant word for everybody. She has been our class secretary for the last three years, and has become noted for her efficiency as well as her extensive wardrobe. DeeDee is also the proud possessor of a driver's license, and her sharp gray Oldsmobile has become a familiar sight around Pratt. We all wish you smooth driving in the future, DeeDee! HARRY PETTENGILL PET E Track 3L, 4L, Soccer 4L, Basketball 4, Glee Club 3, 4, Minstrel 3 ,4, All-State Chorus 4, Osage 4, Editor of Prattler 4, Dramatics Club 4, School Play 4, Dance Committees, Senior Play 4. The only regret we have is that Harry has been with us for only two years, but during these years his athletic prowess, pleasing voice, and piano- playing ability have given him a warm place in our hearts. Harry is uncertain as to what he will do when he leaves Pratt, but we're sure that whatever career he chooses, he will be successful in it. ROBERT RADZIWON- DUDE Science Club 1, Soccer 2, 3, 4L, Assistant Manager Basketball 2, Manager 3, 4, Track 3, 4, Rifle Club 3. Dude is one of those fellows who can be depended upon-whether in the class room or on the athletic field. We will remember him as a staunch fullback on the soccer team. As a team manager, coach says, he is tops . The best wishes of our class go with you, Bob, in all you undertake. MARY RENZONI Baseball 1, Girls' Chorus 1, 2 President, Clef Dwellers 3, 4, Prattler 2, 3, 4, Dramatics Club 2, 3, Osage Board 4. Mary is one of those people who never seems to get full credit for what she does. Whenever there is a job that needs doing, Mary is there to do it with a yvill. The committees she has served on would do credit to a stay of eight years! We wish you every success, Mary, in whatever you plan to do. 18 HAROLD SYPHER MONT Soccer 1, 2. The world is a better place to live in due to the fact that there are some people who are quiet and unobtrusive. Mont is one of these people. He is always willing to help someone by running errands with his ever-present truck. With his pleasant smile and good looks we can be sure that he will go a long way. EDWARD VARNEY ZEKE Soccer 1, 2L, 3L,, 4 Co-Captain, Baseball 1L 2L, 3L, 4Lg Basketball 1, 2, 4Lg Track 3L, Traffic Squad 3, 4, Osage Board 4, Student Coun- cil 3, Class Officer 3, Chairman of Junior Prom 3, National Athletic Honor Society 3, 4. Zeke is one of our all-around students. He has excelled on the sports field and has added greatly to our class activities. What would all the fellows do if they didn'r get a ride home in Zeke's slick Ford? The big question is-what will Lil do without Zeke next year? Good Luck to you, Zeke! ROBERT VITARI BOB Soccer 1L, 2L, 3L, Track 2L, 3L, Traflic Squad 3, 45 Glee Club 3, 45 Minstrel 1, 2, 3, 4, Dramatics Club 4, Orchestra 2, 3, 4, National Athletic Honor Society 4. If you ever see an old '29 Chevrolet chugging up the Plains Road, you will probably see the smiling face of Bob Vitari behind the wheel. Bob is our squeezebox artist and somewhat of a scientist as his experiences with tar have proved. His cheerfulness and versatility have given Bob a place of high esteem in all our hearts. ELIZABETH ZABIELSKI BETTE Art Club 1, 2, Dramatics Club 1, 2, 3, 4, Cheerleader 2, 3, 4, Forum Club 2, 35 Chorus 1, 2, Clef Dwellers 3, 4, Minstrel 1, 2, 3, 45 School Play 4, One-Act Play 1, 2, Traiiic Squad 2, 3, 4, Student Council 2g Orchestra 2, 3, Hockey 1, 2L, 3L, 4Lg Softball 1, 2, 3L, 4, Basketball 1, 2, Prattler Staff 1, 2 33 Osage Board 4, Dancing Club 1, 2, Declamations 1, 2. Bette's untiring efforts have helped push many a dance towards success. She has also been a member of our hockey and baseball teams and a vigorous member of the cheerleaders' squad. Bette has no definite plans for the future, but with her ingenuity and ability she's sure to do something interesting. 19 CLASS We, the- graduating class of Pratt High School, being of sound body, moulded by our beloved Coach, and of sound mind, thanks to the untiring efforts of the faculty, do hereby designate this docu- ment our last will and testament. NATIONAL ATHLETIC HONOR SOCIETY The fourfold purpose of the N. A. H. S. is: 1. To foster high scholarship among boy athletes. 2. To stimulate desire for balanced training. 3. To elevate the ideals of sports- manship. 4. To develop more outstanding leaders in the secondary schools of the United States. Any boy in the three upper classes is eligible for membership. He must have earned one letter, and his scholarship standing must be above the general average of the school. He must have displayed the highest type of citizenship and sportsmanship. PI CLUB The Pi Club, the Pratt High School Honor Society, was organized in 1930 for the purpose of showing respect to those students who have been outstanding in scholarship, extra curricular activities, sports, and good citizenship. The faculty elects members of the club and each year on Class Day one sopho- more ,two juniors and several seniors are tapped for member- ship. We regret that the above picture does not include members of the Class of 1950 who will be chosen in june. Left to right: Edward Varney, Robert Vitari. D.A.R. Each year the Daughters of the American Revolution honors out- standing high school girls through- out the nation. This award is based on leadership ability, good citizenship, and character. Three candidates are chosen by the class, and the faculty elects one of the three. This year the class elected the three girls shown in the picture and Betty Coombs was chosen D. A. R. girl.
