Amy Prairie View's Junior-Senior Prom, . ,ff .-7 X 'F . lr is Q r W I ev-...sr -vw X i E Knight of Enchantment in Camelot tru- ly enchanted prom-goers with its elaborate decorations and awesome D.J. The Junior class worked diligently on Friday to create a rnidieval aura. One of the feature attractions was the valet parking offered by some of the parents. A canopied entrance with a shin- ing banner announced the arrival of Camelot to PV. The hallway leading into the gym was transformed to a drawbridge crossing over a moat. Sand candles lighted the journey across the moat giving a romantic effect to the evening. The gynasium was decorated with castle stone Knight of Enchantment in Camelot paper and a Roman garden. The garden was the gym's main attraction with a pool and fountain surrounded by benches and flowered trees to complete the garden ef- fect. The ceiling was lowered with metallic streamers that reflected the romance and sparkling beauty of the night. The dance was a huge success with the famous Q104 D.J., Chuck Nasty spinning the tunes. The Nastyman livened up the evening with several exciting contests and the awarding of Q104 t-shirts. Out of the many contests held, Richard Boone won the male dance contest, while Brad Mendenhall and Jill Lowe captured the twisting title. All the participants had a great time. Sovenir memory books were handed out to forever cherish the night and Tim's Shutter Shoppe offered a remembrance photograph. Refreshments were served by sophomores Wes Chambers, Eric Canada, Jerry Cutshaw, Treasa Howard, Laura Brown and Michelle Meitler. The Junior class did a spectacular job with the entire event. The sponsors, Deb- bie Likely, Tony Fomelli, Ron Price, Joan Windler, and Walda Baker, would like to thank them for all their hard work and the Juniors greatly appreciate the sponsors support. It was a truly a Knight of En- chantment in Camelot. Senior, Shelly Wade and her escort

JUST HORSIN by Jill Lowe Fun! Excitement! Competition! These are some of the things High School Rodeo offers. HS Rodeo is a demanding sport too, as Mark Driskell, Kristie Clearwater, Jill Lowe, Angie Camerer, and Nikki Jones will emphatically agree. These determin- ed PV students practice hour upon hour and travel many miles to succeed in their sport. To be a competitor in this sport these five students must be dedicated not only to daily practice, but to keeping up their grades as well. To be eligible to com- pete in HS Rodeo they must pass five of their seven classes. Mark, Kristie, Jill, Angie, and Nikki put in many hours on the road hauling to the twenty qualifying rodeos held throughout the state at Concordia, Plainville, Topeka, Dodge City, Kingman, Lakin, McPherson, Medicine Lodge, Scott City, and Burl- ington. To make it to State Finals, which are held in Topeka, the rodeo athletes must gain points in their events by placing in the top ten at the qualifying rodeos or by competing in at least half of these rodeos. At State they compete for double the points to determine the top four rodeo com- petitors in each event who will represent Kansas at the National HS Rodeo Finals in Pueblo, Colorado at the end of July. The competition level in HS Rodeo is top notch. Each competitor is determined to do his or her best. This determination creates Champions. The State and Na- tional I-IS Rodeo Finals are often as com- petitive and exciting as the Pro Rodeo Finals. All the hard work, dedication, and travel time rodeo competitors invest does pay off. Awards such as horse blankets, trophy buckles and trophy saddles are given at the State and National Finals. The chance to compete at Nationals is the experience of a lifetime. Rodeo athletes who do well at the State and National levels are often awarded healthy rodeo scholarships. But regardless of whether you win or lose, the competition and comradery give a great sense of self-satisfaction. The friends one makes and the memorable times they share last a lifetime.
