In his “Brown Sugar” presentation, Bogle takes a poignant, affectionate and analytical look at black female entertainers, on stage and off. Whether he's discussing Josephine Baker’s giddy stardom in Paris in the 20’s, Lena Horne’s Hollywood fame in the 40’s, or Billie Holiday’s problems and troubles in the 50’s, he uncovers not only the tensions, but triumphs of the black female performer in her bid for stardom. “Every student should be pushed to their optimum potential” Dr. Beverly Cole is currently the director of education for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). The primary goal of this organization is to ensure equal access to quality, integrated education for minority children. Dr. Cole spoke on education in the black and white colleges. She stated that there are more black students in ratio to black teachers. She emphasized that teachers should teach test taking techniques. Prior to joining the NAACP, she served as the projected coordinator for the cultural awareness training program at UCLA and as a research consultant in California.
