The founders of our organization did not follow the traditions and patterns of the Greek Letter organization, thus bringing in a whole new concept of brotherhood devoted to the encouragement and cultivation of high scholastic and ethi- cal standards, the binding of the friendship of all college men and the improvement of the social stature of the race. Groove Phi Groove was chartered at Prairie View College in October 1973 by thirty-eight enthusiasts of vari- ous majors whom expressed the spirit of Groove Phi Groove with eternal ardor. By virtue of the fact that the charter members expressed themselves with such intensity, Groove became one of the most popular organi- zations onthe campus of Prairie View. Today, Groove Phi Groove is a strong nation-wide organization comprised of 35,000 members with gradu- ate and undergraduate status. The year 1979-80 the Brothers of Groove Phi Groove reached an objective which was to come in close contact with the faculty and administration of Prairie View A8tM. We had the desire to display the political involvements and the good business and organization qualities of Groove, while main- taining the Groove traditon of having the best social functions: Narada Micheal Concert, Groove Picnic, Inter- organization Sports and showing true school spirit in our own unique way which won us the most spirited organization award . . . In the future, Groove Phi Groove will continue to possess the talent of versatility and innovation that exem- plifies the charter of Groove, because of the common interest and goals we the Brothers have.
