STUDENT PLACEMENT ACTIVITIES INCREASED Representatives of IBM arc entertained by college officials at a luncheon (photo at right). Scores of representatives from business, industry, and government came to the campus to recruit top-level students. The College Placement Office ran weekly schedules of recruiting activities. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ACT HELPS PV STUDENTS Hie Economic Opportunity Act provided assistance to PV students through the federal work-study program. Many students who would have been unable to continue in college were able to do so through part-time employment provided under the Act. The program is expected to be expanded in 1965-66. EMPHASIS IN SCIENCE, ENGINEERING CONTINUED Special grants from the National Science Foundation, 'The Welch Foundation and others made possible a continued emphasis in the fields of science, physics, and engineering. Grants in the areas totalled more than $200,000. Science research was emphasized. Continuation grants were awarded to Dr. C T. Stubblefield, Dr. Roscoe Lewis and Dr. Charles Urdy. PRESS CLUB SPONSORS JOURNALISM CONFERENCE AND MISS TEXAS HIGH The Student Press Club held its 5th annual MISS TEXAS HIGH contest. Miss Barbara Wood, 19M winner, is shown receiving Trophy from Miss Gloria Neal, 1963 MISS TEXAS HIGH of Kilgore. The 5th contest was held on April 9-10, 1965. The second High School Reporters Conference held at the same time, attracted 200 students and sponsors from twenty-five schools.

NFAV COMPUTER CENTER ESTABLISHED Construction was completed early in the year on a new computer center for the college. A building to house the enlarged data processing facilities has been constructed adjacent to the administration building. The building project is reported to cost $20,000.00. The new center is expected to handle business operations at the college and aid in expanding research activities. MANPOWER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM ESTABLISHED AT PRAIRIE VIEW A program of the Manpower Development Training Act was established during the year by the School of Industrial Education and Technology. A class in Typing and office procedure is offered by Mrs. Jean McDonald, a professional business woman. Twenty-four young ladies, all high school graduates, were enrolled in the first course offered. BAND UNIFORM FUND DRIVE— Dr. E. W. Owens, Alumni Executive Secretary, receives a contribution from the Colorado County-PV Club. President C. L. Richardson.

 COACH-OF-THE-YEAR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP- PV retired the giant National football trophy (held by co-captains Seth Cartwright and Otis Taylor) in 1963. Representatives of the Coca Cola Bottling Company were on hand to make the presentation. The Panthers entered the first leg on the new trophy which will go to the first college winning the crown three years. Coach W. J. (Billy) Nicks is shown receiving special awards from NAIA representatives. NEW GYM FACILITIES The new Health and Physical Education building brought added facilities and conveniences long awaited by students at the college. The swimming pool (left) is huge, and modern in every respect. It provides facilities for instruction in swimming and water safety (and a place to take pictures of pretty girls). The spacious field house (below) scats 5000 at basketball games, 6000 when the floor is used.
