HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR Governor John Connally's proposals to raise the level of higher education in Texas second to none” has had the greatest influence on goals and activities at Prairie View A M College in 1964-65. In an effort to meet the state’s demand for coordination and quality in higher education, the Board of Directors of the Texas A M University System proposed to merge all the schools in the system into a multicampus university. Under this plan the College would become Texas A M University at Prairie View.” Legislation was considered however on plans for three (and five) major systems, with a complete reorganization of the state's program of higher education. The new Health and Physical Education building was occupied during the year and everyone seems to agree that the facilities are top notch”. Also strictly on the ball are the two new dormitories under construction. Students observed almost the complete construction job during the year from bottom to the fourth floor—air conditioning and all. Considerable integration of the faculty' was also accomplished during the year. Much needed strength was added to the faculty particularly in some areas of special need. Prairie View students benefited greatly from the establishment of the Federal work-study program which provided employment for many who would have had difficulty remaining in school. The Manpower Development program was another welcomed addition to the college program. On the lighter side, the organizations were at their best this year. The big events—Homecoming—Coronation of MISS PV, Press Club activities and others—were great. And added to all this, the football team brought home their second consecutive conference and national championship. It was a great year. We hope that the pictures and writings recorded here will always serve to remind you of this fact.

I REORGANIZATION PROPOSED BY BOARD OF DIRECTORS Prairie View A M College's name may he Texas A M University at Prairie View or Texas State University at Prairie View: The change is scheduled to come in September 1965. The proposal to merge the schools of the A M System into a multicampus University was formally presented at Prairie View last February before representatives of the faculty, alumni, and students. Representatives of the Board of Directors and System officers advised the group that the reorganization plan would be presented to the legislature during the current session. COLLEGE FACULTY INTEGRATED With the addition of two Indians, a Chincse-American, several whites and seventeen Negroes, Prairie View A M began to resemble a little United Nations when school opened last September. New staff members holding the doctorate degree included Wayman T. Dever and Noble Armstrong, both in Education, and Pedro A. Oliver, Physics. m mb i DR. EVANS DISCUSSES COLLEGE GOALS WITH PRES. JOHNSON President E. B. Evans met with President Lyndon B. Johnson in Washington, D.C. early this year. The two talked about Texas first, then more specifically about future plans and progress at Prairie View. President Johnson helped bring several buildings and ccjuipmcnt to the college back in the days of the NY A. Some of the buildings arc still in use today.
