In their first year under Coach Don Yahr, the Prairie Indians, sporting straight and split-T form- ations under the signal calling of senior quarterbacks Tom Smith and Paul Boehmer, fought their way to the Tri-County Championship. The Indians, who were well conditioned in their firs't few games, showed much improvement in every game and scored a total of 67 points in eight games against 52 points scored by the opponents. Recieving the championship was due largely to the fine team work and defensive play in holding the opponent scoreless in the majority of the games. Having a great season, the team gave the fans many thrills with their sparkling performances. One of the highest moments was the 59 yard pass from Dave Moe to Bob Schwarz in the opening period of the championship game against Sauk City.Probably the most memorable day to the players and coaches was the extra practice in cold weather and snow, when preparing for our arch rival, Sauk City. Our hardest fought game was the 13 to l3 tie with Verona. a new team in our league this year. Every boy that played in this game put forth his greatest efforts. The Homecoming game against Arena this year was a great showing for the fans. Every boy saw action in this game. Battling their way to special All-conference honors were Mike Riechman, Dave Moe,and Dan Googins. Mike Riechman also deserves an extra pat on the back back for earning a position on the All-area team. L. to R. -Quarterback Paul Boehmer, Quarterback Tom Smith and Center Dick Aylward.
