I Y fl X v Q: 3 4 CLASS HISTORY OF '46 14 Q. At last-the long awaited day was here! It took us eight J t long years, but here we were, Freshmen, and entering Prairie A 67 High. It was September, 1942, as fifty-nine of us green Fresh- x' A men stepped through these sacred portals. 2 K' We shuddered and shook through the first few weeks, be- X cause the Sophomores kept telling us to beware of initiation night. ,, Q' When the fatal night finally arrived, and we were officially made F high school students, it wasn't nearly as bad as we had expected. A 6? After struggling through two sets of semester exams, we V ' moved up one step on the stairway of life and were Sophomores, I ' p ? Now, this year it was our turn to initiate the next Freshman class, fl 1 X which we did to a turn Of course, we gave them the horror EX SKA ' routine that we had received the year before. Mb, When the fall of '43 rolled around, we stepped into the spot- X A , , 2 light because we were then Juniors. We had taken one more step S X S lf' up the stairs which had brought us up to the class that had full li cs charge of the Junior Prom. We worked hard under the able di- ' rection of Mrs. Page CMiss Robinson thenj and on the evening of A April 13, 1945, Lois Shields and Spencer Anderson, our royal ' couple, led the grand march through the gym, which was trans- G formed into a beautiful garden scene. A, During the spring of 1945, an event happened which was a X shock to all of us. Mr. Clauson, our principal, died. He was a 37 G very able principal, and we all knew we would miss him. It was 1' X strange not to have him welcome us back to our last year of high A Q school life, but his place was filled by a man who has done a great al deal for Prairie and who is well fitted for the position, Mr. A. H. X Koten. ay By the time we awoke to the realization that we were Qs Seniors and had only another school year in Prairie, the war was over and things were beginning to return to normal. We had at- Qg tended all of our high school during the war and this was a plea- aj sant change. K5 Richard Barrow was the only member of our class who en- QQ tered the service before he finished high school. He joined the G7 Marines. Out of the fifty-nine green little Freshmen who entered K high school in '42, only thirty will graduate from here. During the moving about after the construction of the powder plant, many ' ,. students drifted to and from Prairie, which accounts for this de- as A r crease. Sv! is There are just a few Seniors who will graduate this year Q4 who haven't spent all of their high school years at Prairie. yi This is the final paragraph concerning the high school ca- 3, reers of the class of '46. We will all be on our own soon, and will ' I go out to make our places in the world. .gy ' -Q eb .tsawawwetwa -L if
